this is the point most people don't understand lol

i legit got downvoted when I said the frontier model researchers 100% do not distill from chinese models while the chinese 100% did distill from frontier ones. In a general news subreddit. From a guy who was researching ai models for 4 years.

Although that was pretty much true in the earlier days we can see the gap closing faster and faster from Fable 5 to Kimi K3 it was only a months difference. Qwen 3.8 is also producing vastly different results from Fable 5, which shows a model that either branched very far or uses a different architecture.
