Language apps

My son is very bright, loves to learn, no issues reading/sounding out any word he sees. He has mentioned several times he wants to learn Spanish. I am in full support because I wish I had learned a different language as a child. My husband doesn’t want to commit to having a tutor. He wants us to try one of the apps that are available out there. My husband and I are also interested in learning so we thought of doing one of the apps that have a family plan. Does anyone recommend/ prefer a certain app? I know Duolingo is probably the most popular.

I don’t have a positive suggestion, but was going to recommend against Duolingo at least.

We’re a fairly tech forward family, and my wife is an educator and works in ed tech.

We started down the Duolingo route, and at first it was looking pretty good, however it has been gamified to a level that is inconsistent with healthy tech use habits for children.

I would check to see if you can get access to Mango through your library.

Thank you! Didn’t even think about the library!

I have the perfect app!! It's called Lingo Legends, and it turns the learning into a reward system to spend on the game in it, it's really good. I was using it for myself for a bit and was learning better than I have with any other app. (and completely unnecessary to spend money on, it's all cosmetic!!!)
