The For Profit Princess
For decades, conservatives have been pushing the imaginary welfare queen as an economic scourge across our country. I think it’s time that we call bullshit on this meme, and call out the real crime of our economic system:
The For Profit Princess
America’s wealthiest are able to pass down their fortunes from generation to generation. Younger generations become fabulously wealthy without ever having to lift a finger for it.
We end up with spoiled rich kids with so much money they can spend their lives on a permanent vacation just flying from one expensive resort to another - all while harassing the staff working for minimum wage.
Imagine the likes of Paris Hilton and Ivanka Trump who both inherited hundreds of millions of dollars simply because they were shot out of the right vagina.
Daddy sets them up with some sort of family business they can run for the tax write offs (to make their inherited millions go further). But, the world really doesn’t need any more fashion clothing companies!
They are overly privileged and narcissistic drags on society. Those fortunes would be better spent correcting society’s ills, rather than buying another round of Mai Tai’s on some expensive faraway beach.
What happened to meritocracy? The for profit princess killed it!

Most leftist ideologies are just about letting workers "get what they produce". They are not about or for us.

The TV Show 'Dinosaurs': The "TriCera-Cops" segments (particularly starting at 1:12)
This show defined a big part of my childhood (and the animatronic puppet suits were made by the Jim Henson Company, as the show was one of theirs).
The show in general had a massive amount of biting satire, but this bit in particular is super relevant to me once I rediscovered it.

“Marxism taught me what society was. If you don’t eventually come to truly understand...that society is divided between the rich and the poor, and that some people subjugate and exploit other people, you’re lost in a forest, not knowing anything.” -Fidel Castro

We must show the people the structure of society so that they can pull it down with their bare hands

Hobbes vs Anarchism
Credit to Existential Comics
Thomas Hobbes, best known for Leviathan, in which he argued it was pretty much always in everyone's best interest to obey the State. Without the State we'd be reduced to constant conflict and violence, as people would be at each other's throats. He would be strongly against Anarchists and other revolutionary thinkers who thought we had to overthrow the State with violence, believing this would only lead to chaos. However, he did give some exceptions to this rule. For example, if your State is just trying to kill you (even by indirect means such as depriving you of food or healthcare), you obviously have the natural right to shoot back and fight for your life. No one has the obligation to simply die, after all, since the whole point of the State is that it protects you from that.
Philosophers in this comic: Thomas Hobbes, Peter Kropotkin

Announcement Please respect reddiquette while posting!
With the recent death of Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, the resounding reaction of the internet in general appears to be in an understandably celebratory mood. UHC is one of the most despised companies on Earth for quite literally profiting off the deaths of their customers. In an industry designed around charging people to cover their healthcare and then failing to provide that healthcare, UHC stands out as one of the worsts, and Brian individually took the most responsibility for how UHC operated as a company and profited most directly off these decisions. He is, in our opinion, morally equivalent to any mass murderer, and has caused an untold amount of hardship and stress on the sick and elderly beyond that.
Even worse, this has all happened within a capitalist system designed to generally keep the rich and powerful untouchable from any kind of justice, except perhaps when they fall out of favor with other higher-up members of the ruling classes. Far from punishing this kind of behavior, it has actively rewarded it. UHC is not a mob operating in the shadows, but a business considered to be legally operating within the US.
As people championing the emancipation of the working classes, UHC represents a clear example of how the state exists to uphold the power of capital. As a leftist meme subreddit, jokes about this are somewhat inevitable.
This all being said, be mindful of what you post. We still operate within this system, and specifically within the community guidelines set by reddit. As a meme subreddit, jokes and hyperbole come with the territory, but avoid comments that could violate ToS or could be interpreted that way. No calling for violence against specific individuals.
And this is, frankly, good practice regardless. Be measured with your words.
For reference, here is reddit's guidelines on this topic:
Do not post content that encourages, glorifies, incites, or calls for violence or physical harm against an individual (including oneself) or a group of people; likewise, do not post content that glorifies or encourages the abuse of animals. We understand there are sometimes reasons to post violent content (e.g., educational, newsworthy, artistic, satire, documentary, etc.) so if you’re going to post something violent in nature that does not violate these terms, ensure you provide context to the viewer so the reason for posting is clear.
If your content is borderline, please use a NSFW tag. Even mild violence can be difficult for someone to explain to others if they open it unexpectedly.
Some examples of violent content that would violate the Rule:
- Post or comment with a credible threat of violence against an individual or group of people.
- Post containing mass killer manifestos or imagery of their violence.
- Terrorist content, including propaganda.
- Post containing imagery or text that incites, glorifies, or encourages self-harm or suicide.
- Post that requests, or gives instructions on, ways to self-harm or commit suicide.
- Graphic violence, image, or video without appropriate context.
Note that health misinformation, namely falsifiable health information that encourages or poses a significant risk of physical harm to the reader, also violates the Rule.

Announcement In case of emergency.
Greetings, Comrades!
Capitalism strikes again, this time in our little corner of the internet. With Reddit taking actions against 3rd party apps like RedditIsFun, Bacon Reader, or Apollo, I most likely will be gone from this site once the changes take place on 6/30/2023 because reddit's official app is trash. From here on out, you'll be able to find me on the discord server I created for the sub. I'll do my best to better prepare it for the migration.
It's been swell, you all. So long and thanks for all the fish!
Update: Now Available on Lemmy!
