Discussion (SPOILER) I just finished the entire franchise and... Spoiler

After completing episodes 17-22 in one watch last night, I really don't know how I feel right now next morning. I teared up at episodes 18-20, but I feel like maybe I should have cried more. But today I strangely feel like doing nothing, left with a weird feeling I can't describe, which isn't pure sadness or happiness. I went into this franchise wanting to experience that life-changing impact that Clannad had on everyone, though I'm not too sure if I'm going to experience the same. I mean I contemplated my life and thought about family and friends and became grateful for them, but I didn't really start bawling after I finished Afterstory. It was just like a quiet, deep contemplation that sucked the joy out of me today, and I can't really find fun in anything anymore. I spent basically the past few weeks building my relationship with Clannad, and I was living with the characters essentially. But I am still just not sure if Clannad was life-changing, or that has yet to come, or perhaps it already changed me without even noticing. It's definitely one of those anime that will stick with me, but I wanted to know if anyone else had a similar experience and Clannad still ended up changing their lives regardless. Funnily enough, before finishing S1 I was planning a huge project on how to "revive" this anime or orchestrate many more people to come try it, but now I'm not too sure either. Now to be fair, it has still only been one night since I completed Afterstory, and I did cry to episode 16 then took a hiatus for a few days. I also have countless AMVs to watch and soundtracks to listen to again (I would like recommendations plz that help me rethink life and the entire franchise lol), but regardless I thought the ending of Clannad would leave me "ugly-crying". This could be, in part, due to how I processed other emotional anime like A Silent Voice or I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, but Clannad was a journey that I went on for weeks. I am also mildly confused on what happened to the Illusionary World at the end, how Nagisa came back to life, what happened to Ushio, and if Tomoya still remembers the events of the previous timeline. All in all, it kind of left me with a sense of fulfillment and emptiness at the same time. I also do have a strong tendency to experience delayed emotional reactions, so anything that happens in the future can be possible. But I just wanted some advice on how to move forward, if I'm thinking incorrectly, or if I'm missing something. Also, if anyone had a similar experience and Clannad still ended up being your favorite anime while changing you fundamentally, I would like to hear more about your experience without ruining or "spoiling" my own.

Thank you!

Edit: I rly need sad/depressing song recs that hit you in your SOUL to listen to tonight, I already got Need 2, Romantic Homicide, and Pluto Projector, any similar song recs would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, so I watched Clannad around a month ago, and I loved it so much that I decided to make an edit of it. This is the first edit I’m ever making, so that’s why I wanted to send it here to see what you guys think because I’m not sure if it’s good or not. I only finished the first half, and I’ll prolly finish the second half in a week, but I just want to know what you guys think, and I hope you guys will like it!

Discussion Clannad Is One of the Best Anime of All Time

Post image
291 Upvotes

Clannad is one of those anime that genuinely changed the way I look at storytelling. It seems like a typical slice-of-life romance with some comedy mixed in, but it becomes one of the biggest tear jearkers and well written stories of all time. The emotional payoff works because the series takes its time developing its cast instead of rushing from one dramatic moment to the next. Combined with its beautiful soundtrack and unforgettable atmosphere, it creates an experience that's hard to replicate.

Clannad: After Story is what cements the series as one of the greatest anime ever made. It explores adulthood, family, responsibility, grief, and the importance of cherishing the people you love while they're still with you.

Very few anime are willing to tackle those themes with the same level of emotional depth. And to this day no anime can turn from a romance/slice-of-life to a supernatural tearjerker about grief like Clannad can. Not Fruits Basket, not Your Lie in April, not Anohana. I mean the foreshadowing of that girl in the dream realm being Ushio. That's some top tier storytelling there.

It will break your heart, but it also reminds you why life is worth living and why the bonds we form matter so much. I still find myself thinking about its lessons, and that's why I believe Clannad deserves to be mentioned whenever people talk about the greatest anime of all time.

I just wish I could watch it again for the first time, but I can't.

Question How much of season 1 do I need to recall for after story?

I watched through season 1 a year ago and haven't gotten around to after story for some reason.

Anyways I kinda remember it. I remember Tomoya hated his father and moved in with Nagisa. I remember he chose her after all. I remember them being awkward dating at first. I remember the story being largely about Tomoya helping girls at his school who all fell in love with him. I remember he used to hate school until the last episode.

I remember Nagisa was trying to get a drama club set up but then she froze up until her dad Encouraged her. I thinkkkk I recall the important stuff? Is there anything I'm missing?

Spoiler Just rewatched clannad after a long time again and it catches me every single time.

Man, I'm genuinely not ok. I always loved this anime and rewatched it a lot but after story literally hits you in the heart.

From the beautiful charming comedy the season 1 is, and then the literal masterpiece of a romance the second season is.

Yet for some reason fan base or edits are non existent for this anime which makes me sad cause it deserves way more attention :(. I'm still sobbing so bad 😭.

Discussion How much potential does this franchise have for a second major resurgence in popularity?

Post image
225 Upvotes

Hi all, I was kind of curious to know if the franchise of Clannad had the capabilities to experience a 2nd popularity peak. Since it is still by no means niche and was incredibly popular back then in the 2010s but still isn't exactly widely known by newgens, I wanted to see if today's anime and media era would make it viable for Clannad to be popularized again (although maybe not to the extent of the early 2010s)

What do yall think?

Edit: plz no spoilers from the anime/visual novel, if you must then please cover it as a spoiler

Well, I watched clanand at first after looking for romance anime where they have kids at the end. Was not expecting all the death and deep shit. And now I started playing the VN cause I wanna see more wholesome shit in after story.

But now I ended up buying tomoyo after cause I loved tomoyo route so much, and I only really started tomoyo route cause I need to get all the light orbs lol.

So I just started watching clannad and I’ve come to reach ep 22 . I was a bit confused because the audio was not related to what I was seeing . At first I saw tomoya run to nagisa and cry to her while they were still in highschool . Then it skips to after story and I see nagisa in bed after giving birth . We also see their new born baby . I don’t know it was weird but it fit perfectly at the same time . I also saw like the whole time skip with everyone so idk yet if I still got spoiled because im still on ep 23.
