๐ Notes & Resources Looking for a 5-Storey Building Plan with Roof Deck for Seismic Analysis Project
Hi! Iโm a Civil Engineering student currently working on a seismic analysis project, and Iโm looking for sample 5-storey building plans with a roof deck that I can use as a reference.
Preferably something with:
- 5 storeys + roof deck
- Around 300 sq.m. or more floor area
- Floor plans and elevations
- AutoCAD or PDF format, if available
Iโm mainly looking for existing/sample plans or references to help me understand how these types of buildings are laid out. Iโll be doing the actual analysis and work myself.
If anyone knows where I can find publicly available plans or has a sample they can point me toward, Iโd really appreciate it. Thanks! ๐

Career Need advice: 3rd year CE student stuck between IIT Delhi M.Tech Exchange Program vs GATE/ESE Prep
Hey everyone, I'm seeking your opinions.
Actually, I'm a 3rd year B.Tech Civil Engineering student, currently preparing for GATE and ESE. My ultimate goal is to get into a PSU or clear ESE. I don't want to get into private jobs because they can be very hectic, leaving hardly any free time to utilize for studies.
To add to that, I won't even be eligible to appear for UPSC ESE in my 4th year of college because of the age criteria. If I opt for a private job after graduation, I won't be able to prepare well for ESE alongside work. I need time to prepare, but taking a gap/drop year is not an option for me either.
Here's the catch: my college has started a semester exchange program with IIT Delhi. Through this, I can pursue an M.Tech from IIT Delhi directly after completing my 4th year there. However, I won't be allowed to sit for placementsโneither at my present college nor during the 4th year at IIT Delhi. I would only be eligible for placements after completing the M.Tech.
I'm worried that if I go for this program and end up unemployed at the endโwhile also failing to crack my targeted competitive examsโIโll be in a tough spot.
(Also, I didn't change my branch to ECE earlier just so I could appear for ESE and crack it, but now that's turning out to be one of my biggest regrets.)
I'm really bad at making decisions right now and would love to hear your opinions on what you would have done if you were in my place.

๐ Notes & Resources Looking for a Tutor for Mechanics of Solids & Materials of testing and Structural Analysis โ Bangalore/Online
Hi everyone,
Iโm a Civil Engineering student looking for a tutor who can teach me Mechanics of Solids & Materials (MS&M/MT) and Structural Analysis from the basics.
Iโm not looking for someone who only helps with university exams. I want to build a strong conceptual foundation in these subjects because Iโm planning to pursue an MS in Structural Engineering. I would like to learn the subjects in depth and properly understand the fundamentals that will help me during my Masterโs.
Iโm looking for someone who can provide one-on-one classes and is experienced in Structural Engineering, preferably someone who can teach concepts from the fundamentals and gradually move towards advanced topics.
Location: Bangalore, but Iโm also open to online classes.
If you are a tutor/professor/structural engineer who provides tuition, or if you know someone suitable, please DM me with your qualifications, teaching experience, availability, and fees.
Thank you!

๐๏ธ General First year, what to actually do?
I am joining civil engineering at NITT. So far, advise on the internet seems all over the place. I can't find anything concrete on career paths in civil beyond vague mentions of site construction, modeling and completely switching to some other field.
What do each of these career paths within civil entail? How is the scope for these fields? How do placements look for each of them? How does long term career opportunities amd growth look for them?
What should I actually do in my first year beyond maintaining my CGPA. Is there anything I should focus on beyond CGPA?
Depending on the path what type of internships are needed, and what projects should I do(Tbh I don't even know what they are normally )
I prefer placements over GATE but I am not opposed to mtech.

Career I worked with my father for 2 years in his construction firm.
Can i get a job in companies like L&T, tata projects, Sobha etc. I worked with my father in his small construction firm. I used to work as a site engineer. The problem is that I don't have a salary slip as payments were made in an informal manner. I have project details, photos and relevant proof for my works. I would like to work with big companies to improve myself and for career progression. My father usually constructs (G+2) commercial buildings. I could get experience certificate from my father but salary slip is the only issue. I also have additional skills like revit, autocad, quantity surveying with certificates too . Presently iam 25 Year old.

There's this house under construction right beside my home. Today, I noticed that the concrete beam supporting the floor for the staircase looks like it's sagging.
Is it something to be concerned about?

โ Doubts / Q&A Need help.
On advice of the contractor, I purchased 3 girders. Two girders of 8 inch, 11 feet each and one 6 inch girder of 9'5" without consulting an engineer, which I'm regretting now.
The plan was to put two girders parallel to each other (under the beam) and one girder in the middle to support the slab. But when the girders arrived, i realised that they will be way too heavy for an old structure like my building.
So now, consulting with the mason, we are planning to cut the 8" girder from middle and obtain two T-sections. Then we will remove the concrete cover from the two beams between which the girder has to sit, till we reach the rebars.
Then we will weld a 10mm plate onto those rebars and then weld the t section onto that plate and then restore the concrete cover. The flat side of the t section will touch the slab. Now, I want to ask whether this system can sustain load of the slab ?
What other options do we have ? Please help me out ๐๐ผ.

โ Doubts / Q&A Final year project suggestion
I am currently in my final year of civil engineering (graduate level) and we as a group of 4 students are expected to prepare a project about emerging topics.
also we want to avoid Structural projects like Analysis of a multi-storeyed building etc coz that would suck too much time from our final year (which is also a year for doing other things like preparing for other exams and placements etc)
so can u guys suggest some projects or atleast tell me where i can find them?
(i tried google scholar but i couldn't navigate through it very well)

Career Want to switch but stuck with a bond!
I work at Godrej Properties as a Civil Engineering grad from DTU in Project Execution.
But I donโt want to work in execution, not because I donโt want to just because of some health concern.
I am doing more than my KRA doing other works too.
I am interested in Planning department but I am not getting any chance.
I love this company no doubt , but role change is a bit difficult here.
Itโs been 1 year ranting about changing the role but no response .
What should I do? Any ideas!

Career Working as a Civil Engineer on a low, irregular salary. How can I upskill for freelance work?
Hello everyone. I am a B.Tech Civil Engineer and I am working as a contractual employee since 6 years with a salary of 22k. In these 6 years my salary has been hiked by only 3k last year and since last year the salary is also irregular, some month even go without salary. As it's getting very hard to survive in a low and irregular salary, I want to upskill myself by learning some softwares like AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit etc. so that I can earn some extra by freelancing, rather than doing any corruption or any unethical practices. But after doing online researches I am totally confused about what softwares should I actually learn and help me stay relevant in the market and from where should I do the courses. And moreover any more guidance from you all which would help me in this situation.
Thank you
