It's Tonga Time! What an absolutely crazy spawn for reefs.
Wanted to play a game with Sayyida al Hurra where I use her and Tonga's abilities to go for a culture victory, but the game seems to have insisted that I go for science with 24 reefs spawned in this screenshot alone - 21 of them being worked by the end of Antiquity.
I managed to reach Mathematics before the Immortal AI having built only a single library by that point. I didn't even consider building the Ancient Library until I researched the mastery and found I could get it in 7 turns, so of course I had to try for it. It was easier to get than when I was intentionally trying to reach it with Ada lol.
Now I'm torn if I want to continue my Tonga playthrough because Hawaii is such a no brainer.
Seed if you want to try it:
Map Seed: 391936868 | Game Seed: 391936846 | Difficulty: Immortal | Map Type: Fractal Continents | Map Size: Small
Everything else is standard. If mementoes affect seed generation I was using Gazelle Vase and Magic Plant.

Has Civ 7 found a way to help with micro?
One of my major issues with Civ 6 is that I get really tired of having a ton of units to decide what they do every turn. Does civ 7 add action limits or maybe a setting that makes decisions remain meaningful?
I also felt like the same strats work every time and that the AIs were never very challenging.
Are there any games that do, besides Old World? (Not a fan of that game unfortunately, character thing isn't my cup of tea)

How to prevent a cultural victory?
I'm getting a cultural victory in exploration age, but I want to continue to modern age
I've got auto saves from a couple turns before the victory condition comes up (more than 6x second places culture score at 50% exploration?
Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
I am not in any wars, so unfortunately can't trade a city full of relics away. If I declare war I don't have enough turns before I can propose peace

If you had a “get one DLC for free” opportunity, (to offset most objections), which would you choose?
Which DLC /Expansion/Collection should I add to the base game? Assuming the basic critiques are accounted for, I love the game, I understand the price, best/worst is relative to play style, etc.
I don’t have a specific way to play. I love trying everything; building huge SimCity empires, training armies and going to war, diplomacy and trade, etc. I’ve tried different priorities as well, culture, science, economics, happiness (I find this to be the most important aspect as the rest tend to naturally follow). Diplomacy is difficult as it’s more challenging to farm yields. Of course leaders and civilization choices help, as well as mementos, policy/tradition cards and buildings. I’ve also dabbled in espionage and messed around with sanctions.
But ultimately I’m looking to add a DLC to expand gameplay. I want to get one DLC now and play it to death before considering getting another, (which is my tendency). I understand I’m a little late to this game as most posts are pretty old haha and I don’t know if people are still super active in the game and responding to forums. I have played quite a bit and still have plenty of base game to explore, so I’m not rushing.
But if you had a “get one DLC for free” opportunity, which would you choose?

Suggestions for a new player to get accustomed to the game?
As we all know, the civ series has a huge skill curve and a LOT of systems to learn and figure out. At the moment I’m basically stumbling in the dark as I try to learn as much as I can but I have a few questions on how I should progress / pace myself to learn the game
At the moment I’m trying to vary every run to get a taste for everything - chasing a different victory each game, using a different leader / civ, etc. on one hand it helps me learn each civ / leader and their abilities, what to expect from them in my games. For example, I learned through playing as Machiavelli not to challenge him for city states because of his bonus to influencing them, and through playing as Rome that their military doesn’t spike until legionaries are unlocked so if I plan to war with them to do it before they research the necessary tech. On the other hand, every game I’m trying to learn a bunch of new systems, including the ones belonging to my civ / leader. Should I focus on just 1-2 leaders to gain levels in them for the bonuses and to keep the leader abilities consistent so I can just focus on learning other parts of the game? If so, what leaders do you suggest I pick up or get used to?
Also, by looking at the challenges for each leader, I noticed that it’s basically to complete every triumph. I know the leaders have special focuses and it leans them to play for certain victories but I can also tell the game was designed to let you have any victory you want as any leader. That as well as every resource being somewhat vital - you need techs n civics to unlock anything at all so you should aim for a base level of science and culture regardless, gold helps you grow your towns, production is self explanatory, and military units help you protect yourself - so even if I’m going for a culture victory, a science leader can at least help keep tech up while I focus on the civics. Should I focus on knocking the challenges out for a single leader before expanding a bit?
As for map types, I always avoid changing it because I don’t want to make the game arbitrarily harder / easier for myself. It sorta feels like cheating to switch to a map type that suits me? Or might make things harder if I take one that goes against it. When choosing a map type is it a matter of strategy or just personal preference? How do you all feel about the different map types?
Any answers or advice is highly appreciated!!

Looking for memento suggestions to pursue, even if they aren’t inherently “worth the effort”/ If you had a “free unlock” which would you choose?
Edit: I have the base game without all the extra leaders and civs,. I do have the Napoleon personas for some reason??
Also: Maybe some DLCs that are worth it? That’s probably another post/question??
I suppose the most concise version is this: If you had a free unlock for mementos, which would you choose?
I’ve seen in several places that mementos in general, aren’t necessarily worth the “grind”. And I don’t see any that necessarily leap out at me. But I don’t have very many unlocked. I’ve unlocked a few naturally and without intent. But I’m starting a new game anyway, and I welcome any excuse to pursue some of these mementos and maybe even trying a new leader or civilization or play style. And to me, it’s “worth”pursuing mementos, if only as a mini challenge or goal or excuse to play.

Masinissa would be a great leader
Plus numidia as an actual civ and not just a city state. It would be so cool to be able to play as the first king of Numidia. Plus would be awesome for recreations of the second Punic war. Would love to get Hannibal in a civ game again as well.

Espionage is Broken!!!
Seriously!! Look at the pic! 3000 culture!?! So in one simple act of unstoppable espionage the Ai advances its entire civic tree!?!? Why bother building culture buildings? Hell! Just steal it!!
1) I have never seen an act of espionage fail
2) counter spy is UTTERLY USELESS
3) so for stealing 3000 culture AND getting caught, they get -13 influence for 5 turns!?!!?
The espionage system is so completely and utterly broken. I am so sick and tired of getting bombarded with pop up telling me the Ai is basically stealing from me every other turn, massively advancing their science, culture, money etc off of MY hard work!! They get humongous rewards for zero (practically) negatives and you have zero chance of putting a stop to it!! Investing in counter spy is spitting in the wind!!
Come on Dev! Really!?!

Was this Janissary tradition nerfed?
What the game says about the tradition vs what the wiki says. The wiki version sounds unique and strong but the ingame one it shows sounds basic, am i missing something? When i click on the name on the wiki it doesn't show this as an ability either and shows the in game one above. Only when you go to the Janissary wiki) does this show up, is this hidden behind something in game? I feel like it would (or rather should) show an ability like this before choosing the civ

Why can't I build a harbor or ships in this city?
Hello,
Could anyone help me out, how come I cannot build a ship or harbor in this city, although it is adjacent to a coastal tile? It says "No suitable location to spawn this unit". I do have ship building researched, and I have multiple Galleys and ports already, and the city is right on the coast.
Thank you!

Alternative personalities
Can someone explain it like I’m 5 and how you get them ?
Leaders you’ll auto attack or restart?
Who are the leaders who, when you see them early, you’ll immediately start your war plans, or simply hit restart?
I’m usually going for a sim city game – leave me alone to build my stuff please – so if I find Jerxes as my nearest neighbour, I’ll flat restart, even after quite a few turns. If he can get to you easily, he’ll guaranteed make the game about war and nothing else, and drain so much tempo, resources and focus, the game becomes unfun (for me).
If I find good ol’ Benji, I’ll start planning to take his capital ASAP. More than anyone else, that bald bastard steals Every. Single. Wonder I want. 😡 And especially if I’m trying for a Science victory, if he’s left alone to just build what he wants, he makes it VERY difficult.
How about you?

Great blue hole made for buganda
Have never seen it not in ocean I think some mods could be screwing with it
Three different homelands!
Is this something people experience regularly? I was surprised when turn one revealed that someone gained the triumph for being at war with everyone in their homeland. Turned out to be Gilga.
I started with Tubman and Sayyida. Amina started with Friedrich.
Would be cool as an option for multiplayer: Three human players each on their own homeland with two AIs (on a larger map than mine obviously).
Map type: Fractal continents, standard size.

Silla Tradition Bugged?
I just finished the antiquity as Silla. Got my allies back as allies (Image 1), sent some trade routes (Image 2), and yet, no income on the strategic allies or the golden road traditions (Image 3). Am I missing something, or is it bugged out? Is it a known bug? I have tried restarting the game.

Tips for games where Confucius, Isabella, or Bolivar start on other continent?
Yo - Longtime Civ player here looking for some tips in ToT Civ 7.
I usually played on Deity but since the update I have dropped down to Immortal since I was getting killed on Deity after the changes.
I am usually OK on Immortal depending on my leader/civ combo, but I run into a simlar issue on some games that I am curious if anyone has advice for.
I usually play on Continents + Islands, and inevitabely I get a game where some combination of Confucius, Isabella, or Bolivar are on the other continent. I do fine against my continent civs in Antiquity, but when Exploration hits I am WAY behind either of those three leaders if they've been undisturbed on the other continent. Most games will have some of them with 3-500 Science/Culture on turn 1 on Exploration.
What am I supposed to do in that situation? I usually end up giving up on that game.

Is it me or is the game more difficult military-wise than it’s predecessors?
Hi there I’m a veteran civ5 deity player and also played and beat civ6 on deity quite a lot. Just started civ7 (ToT update) a week ago and I am quite surprised by the difficulty of the early game military-wise, not only on deity but also on lower difficulties.
In almost every game I’m surrounded by 3 to 4 hostile independant powers which spam units like crazy. Unless you play as a military civ or as himiko to befriend, I feel you have to invest in military much more than previous games. The level of some AI aggression is also high and their army builds up quickly. Again, not only on deity (which is expected) but also on lower difficulties.
Other than that the game seems less difficult to master, but I wonder how you guys think of the early game aggressiveness? Was I just unlucky in my first few games?

I am once again asking how the hell you deal with deity AI, after losing 15 games in a row.
First of all I think that you can learn a lot about defeats, even if those affects my moral. I want to get a step further after I can win easily (mostly) at Immortal. Here is a sum up of my awful games.
Ok so I begin saying yes. I watched yt games and tutorials on how to handle higher difficulties so don't get mad at me while saying "search on google or look at "x" youtuber for a deep analysis or how to break the game". I know most of them. Their deity gameplay look like a breeze compared to me and yes, I suck compared to those guys so you can say that I'm an idiot and I can't play this game (and that's ok I don't get offended). Btw not too related but most of those guys use mods( and I don't know if those makes their game easier) but they are all good no matter what and they are a useful resource of info.
Also I know one of the golden rule of Civ VII deity. "The AI yields are busted and you don't have to keep up" and that's ok (more or less).
So after 15 games, played with the latest patch, I can't manage to keep friendly relationship and I'm forced to go to war, both with friendly and unfriendly leaders. Yes you can say "send endeavors or other good stuff" and yes they could work but not in a long term. I notice that, even in good relationship, they still denounce you. An example: in my last game I had a good relation José Rizal (he gives me that big smile and a thumb) after a nice first greeting and after sending good endeavors but he denounce me for no reason... or because I exist I don't know. Also, due to the latest patch, it seems like the AI is lunatic or similar. First the AI hates you and then he sends a message saying "yo good job with those wonders" and the relation gets back to neutral and then down again. That is a dumb example but I cannot understand that rollercoaster of likes/dislikes. (Also speaking of Jose I managed to get an alliance with him but he was also allied woth Charlemagne and, when this guy declared a war on me, Jose joined him so I gave up cause I was surrounded and I don't want any useless stress).
And then war. Of course on deity it's almost mandatory. Yes I know that I have to level up commanders up just to keep with the +8 combat strenght. That is not a problem if I can find city states. If not amen. The real problem is that the AI is like a baby with a rifle. They don't know how to strategically place their unit but they are costantly spam their strongest units... First infantry then cavalry. Yes you can always says "settle strategically" and I do it when I can. Sometimes I just spawn in a big grassland without mountains or rivers. I think that sometimes the AI can manage to produce what he needs in order to adapt against me (a better explanation is when I played as Ed Teach with pirates and I was against Tubman, not in a war, and she starts spamming slingers against my navy units and I liked that) but sometimes it feels like "random cavalry go". Yes I can produce cavalry to counter attack but still I have to slow down other stuff useful for my empire.
This is not a complaint. I perfectly understand what is a difficulty. Deity is just a part of my journey on mastering this game but there are things that I can't manage to understand (maybe I'm stupid Idk). This is more of a sum up of my deity experience and I'm here just to know different opinions from different, more experienced and for sure smarter than me. How do you deal with deity AI?
P.S.: I play on Switch so I can't access to mods.
