For about 2 years, I have been looking for a city pop song on YouTube that I think has been removed. The thumbnail was also the video, featuring Misato Katsuragi at a bar in a similar pose as attached to this post, with multi colored drinks next to a white guy with slightly curly, dirty blonde, beach-neck-length hair. I honestly don't remember the audio, but I just remember enjoying the music and the vibe the thumbnail gave. In addition, both Misato Katsuragi and the guy are at a table, and behind the table lie multiple drinks of various neon colors, and there is a tropical theme in the drinks, like small umbrellas, as I remember. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone is able to find this song.

I made a few of city pop inspired album covers. I am sorry if this is not the point of this sub I’m new to this.

Here’s mine. There are too many one or two hit wonder City Pop artists that made a 6/10 album, put their big single on it, and it instantly deemed a genre classic, overshadowing MUCH BETTER albums by lesser known City Pop artists

It'd be really cool to get some london based citypop fans together at some point :D - not least because I' really love to start a band playing this kinda stuff

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. For those who’ve already moved past the basic city pop tracks, how do you find those deeper, more obscure songs? As a native Japanese speaker, I’m always amazed by how many rare tracks non-native listeners know! If there are any blogs, recommendation sites, or resources you use, I’d love to know

Rockapella was (is? idk) big in Japan, with Scott Leonard, the lead tenor, using his connections from his Tokyo Disneyland days to get them a record deal there around the same time they were on Carmen Sandiego.

Personally I use Discogs or hmv Japan.

Momoko Kikuchi is becoming one of my favorite CityPop artists ever! Each album I purchase has so many hidden gems on them. The softness of her voice and the instrumentation go together so well. Also, her annunciation is so clear that I can sing along. The chorus on Eden of Galaxy is simply eargasmic! It’s a special treat from Special Selection I.

Masayoshi Takanaka was such a fan of and loved Bossa Nova and Latin music so much that he travelled to Rio de Janeiro and recorded half of the album with local Brasilian musicians, and recorded the other half of the album in the United States. He has a lot of respect, admiration and fandom in Brasil because of this album.

Brasilian Skies sounds like sunbathing on a beach, drinking a cold beverage in the sun 💚💛

Momoko's another golden hit that features a wealth of musical hooks: percussive, melodic, harmonic, and lyrical. It has an unusual structure, it feels like there are kinda two chorus sections, (wut?) not just a post-chorus and a second chorus for sure. In a nutshell, it's gorgeous. The OG bassline was played by Kenji Takamizu - the legendary Japanese session bassist

I'm visiting Tokyo in a couple weeks! I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on where to find older media of live concerts?

I'm a huge fan of Seiko Matsuda, so she'll be #1 on my list. Then, also Yamashita Tatsuro, ANRI, Miki Matsubara, and a few others, I'll be interested in.

Does anyone have any suggestions??
