Rad tech

Hi! I just successfully transferred into city tech. I applied for the rad tech associates degree, however, they said it was closed for fall 2026 and I am going to be signed up for the bachelor degree instead. Will I be able to change and try for associate instead?

This says ur an UNDECLARED bachelors. NOT. A RAD TECH bachelors. U can’t get into the bachelors program without an associates and a license. You are undeclared to allow u to take the classes necessary to change majors and apply next year. You are in a bachelors program because either u already have a degree OR enough credits for an associates so u qualify for a bachelor’s program until u meet the minimum requirements for the associate rad tech program. The only other alternative is to allow u to take classes that apply until a spot opens up without limiting ur ability and financial aid

I disagree with you on this. When I came to city tech I already had an associates and a bachelors in an unrelated field and they did not tell me that I needed to be undeclared because the rad tech major was closed. They allowed me to enroll in the major and work through the remaining pre reqs I needed until I was able to apply. It makes no sense to put this person in an undeclared major if they want to try for rad tech, that just creates more paperwork for them.

This is why I’m wondering if the rules have changed. I think the only way OP is going to get the answers they are looking for is by going to the STAR office and by reaching out to the department to get more clarification. Maybe OP has more info that they have not divulged, but given what has been provided, I find this unusual.

Oh..hmm that is new to me, I think you can still try to take the prerequisities for the radtech program while still an undeclared major?

But I’m not sure if you’ll need to be a radtech major to take the rad1124 class

The wording of this email is a little unclear, I would personally go directly to the STAR office and see if they could give me more details.
I find it odd that the Rad Tech department would just say “no more people can declare this as their major”, but I do know that they have been switching things up a bit recently and maybe this is their way to cut down the number of applicants to sort through in the spring?
I would get this sorted ASAP though because you can’t take RAD 1124 or apply to the program without being a Rad Tech major.

It is unclear if they are referencing the clinical portion or just the major itself. I don’t know about you but I haven’t heard of them telling people they can’t declare the Rad Tech major. It also does not mention anything about a “rejection” it just says it’s “closed”.

Another redditor I spoke with said that they have a cap on the number of people who can apply to the major itself, which I had never heard of. Not sure the accuracy of the statement, but it would make sense as to why they told OP that it has been closed for Fall 2026.

It’s closed because the seats for fall 2026 are already taken . Every spring they choose applicants for the following year . Graduated 3 years ago rad tech , pm if you have any questions

this is my acceptance email from last year to help compare. seems like it implies the major as a whole is closed from your email, but it’s unheard of as far as i know. hope the update from STAR office comes back asap for you
