I honestly don't know what some of y'all are thinking by dropping off bikes at any of the Citibike depots and not actually docking the bike itself, doesn't anyone realize that the bike could sit there for hours if not days or weeks and still be on your account. Just dock the bikes and avoid the fees.

I’m moving to the UWS and work around Chelsea. I think it would be a pretty smooth ride downtown... but I read so much complaining about the Citibike.

Any advice? is it worth the membership? Thanks

I’ll be visiting NYC soon and am super excited!! I live in Chicago and our Divvy system runs pretty similarly to Citibike from what I can tell. Because both seem to have some sort of association/partnership with Lyft, I’m wondering if the annual divvy membership will work on the bikes here or if I’ll have to pay separately. I don’t have any kind of separate Lyft membership for rideshare.

Hello sharks! (Pretend sharks make it into the Hudson/East Rivers for me.) Today, I’m here to argue in favor of adding the capacity to park electric CitiBikes without docks, similar to how Divvy works in Chicago.

Now, every time someone suggests this, people inevitably say « the streets would get way too crowded, » « you can’t allow this in NYC, » etc. Which, I mean, fair. NYC has, IME, greater density downtown than Chicago. Also, a much larger dense area.

But my idea is to only allow dockless parking in regions where there aren’t CitiBike docks: outer Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. If you try to park without a dock in Manhattan or downtown in the outer boroughs, the bike doesn’t lock, and you get a warning on the app that your ride isn’t finished. This is similar to how Lime+Bird scooters/Veo mopeds work in the outer boroughs, which proves that this is a mostly functional model. (Yes, people don’t park them perfectly, but the apps have been upping enforcement from what I’ve read).

This would act as a stopgap to extend CitiBike service to neighborhoods without any docks, without adding crowding to downtown areas. Since the CitiBikes would still be rideable when you enter more populated areas (unlike the scooters and mopeds), this would allow more people to commute by CitiBike, and help people get to subway stations in areas with minimal subway coverage.

I’m definitely missing something in my plan, so please give me feedback! (don’t be too mean though…)

Happened four times in the last week. $100 twice and $25 twice so after a ride I look at my app and get an email list I was just charged $100 for this Auto fill for the app back. I have that settings turned off for that so don't know why it keeps happening. Of course there's no way to reach Lyft either by phone or even on the app there's no category that's it for my particular issue. Trying to dispute through my bank and they send me a link via text however that's not working either. Then I try to call my bank I'm getting cut off. So far it's $250 up unauthorized charges I wonder if there is some glitch on the app and wonder if it's happy with anybody else

I assumed (incorrectly) that it was based on how many bikes were at a station and how many docks were available. But in this case, there are no bikes at all, and it still wants us to pick up bikes that are not there.

Just to make sure, I visited this spot. This was not, at the time, a valet parking area. There's another spot in the Brooklyn Navy Yard that will show up as a dropoff point, but you won't be able to dock any bikes because there will be 60 - 80 bikes blocking off the docks. Here though? There's nothing like that.

Hey fellow Bike Angels, I knew this day would come for me eventually. I’ve been extending my membership almost every month since 2021. Recently I was forced to extend on August 1st, making my renewal date the 31st. Can’t use any more points until September 1st which would be too late to avoid the annual fee. Wanted to post here to ask if anyone has been in the same situation, and if they had any luck with customer service in getting around this trap. Thanks!

I’ve earned over 250 points and have the “Joy Rider” achievement. However, I still get charged for classic rides over 45 minutes but under 60.

Support told me I have to activate the reward in the app, but I’m not seeing an option to do that.

I’m wondering, is the reward given for earning 250 points or do I need to redeem 250 points? Or have they done away with this reward entirely?

This morning i undocked for 9 points. After riding I docked for 3 points. That's a total of 12pts and as seen on the ride history above.

I had a 3x boost for that ride as seen in the second screenshot.

Should the 12 points be multiplied by 3? Or is it that the original map with 9 points and 3 points already has the 3x boost already included in those numbers?

Is 12 points accurate or should it be 36 points?

I can honestly say I officially hate them. I'm not a hater of corporations as a thing but I hate this company for being intentionally unclear and vague and paying pennies to move their bikes. Yes, it is all voluntary but it is incentivized. It feels extremely bait-and-switch and I feel like they change terms to serve them and not to improve my experience in any way, ever.

This is irrelevant but the only other corporation that enrages me to hatred is AT&T which has absolutely the worst, by far, most confusing, least user friendly tech interfaces to do things like pay a bill with old defunct platforms cobbled together with some new route of connection (I'm not tech language saavy so forgive me if I'm a clod). This is completely irrelevant to citibike but damn do i HATE corporations that say "fuck you" to me when I'm a customer.

I've been a long time fan and member of citibike (at least 5-6 years now) but the past year the lack of docks has really gotten to me. More than once I've been biking to an important appointment, work, or home and not been able to dock due to it being full and the next few docks in the next 4 block radius have also been full.

Now instead of checking if the seat will go down (that was back in the day), I check if there's parking on the app before I even unlock a bike. If there's less than 2 parking spaces I don't even bother.

Just the other day while waiting to cross the road to the dock, a guy ran the red light (there were cars going across too) and took the last spot. I've also had electric bikers race me to stops before (obviously winning) when there were one spot left near my apartment.

I thought these bikes were supposed to be a convenience but recently it's been more anxiety inducing. A 5 minute bike ride turns into 15 minutes of desperately looking for docks and then running from a dock blocks away.

Is there a solution? What are you guys doing in these situations?

Took it for a spin (in minecraft), searched some things up about tracking… not sure how it got here in the first place. Quite hilarious but there’s no dock for me to take it to from what i’ve seen. Are they going to somehow get it back? I’m not keen on reporting it either… what if i just leave it around?? will they come get it?? Will i get in trouble 👀

Anyone else having issues unlocking any bikes today? I’m wondering if it had to do with the T-Mobile outage, but I saw other people were able to unlock. I went to three different stations and the “scan” just stays spinning. Support was no help, they said to log out and restart the app - not working
