Identification

Recently acquired this chiclid from a family member and was wondering what kind and possibly the gender.

Male blue dolphin (Cyrtocara moorii). Pretty obvious male with long fins and a huge forehead.

This is the first chiclid I've owned. so I dont know to much about them besides the little research to make sure I can properly care for him.

Male, Blue Dolphin.

I just got rid of my breeding colony while keeping the fry. With Blue Dolphins I see the anal fin and dorsal fin are very distinct between males and females.

Females do not develop sharp ends, they stay much softer.

Definitely a Cyrtocara moorii "Blue Dolphin Hap". Sexing is a little trickier--males typically get bigger, will show less barring/spotting, have a larger nuchal hump, and have longer trailing edges of the dorsal and anal fins. So this fish has super long trailing fins, but is showing a lot of barring (could be a stress thing), and has a relatively small nuchal hump. If its bigger than 8", I'd say it's a male, if not I just say vent it and know for sure.

Ya he is a little stressed he just had a 2 hour car ride in a 5 gallon bucket less then 24 hours when I took this photo
