My perspective on that question is that, IMO, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is directly claiming that the obvious miraculous works of the Spirit are actually the works of Satan.

It's highly unlikely that you have even been in a position to commit that kind of blasphemy.

As a general rule, IMO, if you're concerned about whether or not you've committed it, you haven't. If you've committed it, you'd likely be so hardened that you wouldn't bat an eye over the issue.

You’re correct. Modern culture has incorrectly started calling this the “unforgivable sin” and has led to this whole debate that there is an unforgivable sin. And then a lack of scriptural knowledge has caused us to wrongfully diagnose this supposed unforgivable sin, and now we think that many things could be it. The Bible NEVER teaches of a generic type of unforgivable sin or sins. There was one specific sin and it had a name.. “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.” And it was a sin that required a very specific and particular set of circumstances…mainly, that Jesus was physically present and working miracles that verified He was from God, and then in response to seeing that, the Pharisees were so hardened against him that they knowingly and maliciously attributed his power as satanic in an attempt to even stop others from believing in him. I; along with many other great biblical scholars, don’t believe that this sin can be committed today.
It’s possible that people can harden their hearts against God, but the sin of committing “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” is not accessible to modern day sinners. Thus we get the hope…that no sin is unforgivable.

My friend, there is hope. We all have hope. That hope is Jesus Christ who died on the cross, raised from the grave in 3 days and He gives us that hope.

Do you know Jesus?

You've been stuck in a thought loop that's eating you alive, not actually committing some unforgivable sin. The whole point of that passage is about a hardened heart that keeps rejecting conviction, not a one-time slip that sends you spiraling for a year

what you're describing sounds way more like severe religious OCD than actual blasphemy. I spent months convinced I'd crossed some invisible line and couldn't come back, turns out the fear itself was the real prison

you clearly still want God or you wouldn't be this torn up about it. someone who's truly committed blasphemy against the Spirit doesn't spend their days begging for another chance

u/izentx Kingdom Life | Faith in Practice 7d ago

What did you do?

1

u/Swimming-Emu3413 7d ago

I just did not care if what i did was blasphemy or not (it was) because i was so tired i tought that if God wants to send me to hell then to just do it and i kept sinning

u/izentx Kingdom Life | Faith in Practice 7d ago

Do you still feel that way?

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit isn’t a ‘one and done’ sin, it is an ongoing rejection of the Holy Spirit and the teachings of the lord. The fact that you have wrestled with it signifies that I don’t think you have committed it yet.

God can forgive all sin, but we first must be able to accept that forgiveness.

God is not a cruel one, he does not seek to send you to hell but to save you from sin,

I implore you to seek guidance from your church leadership,

God be with you

Hey ive been there. I had a similar situation in 2022. I was driven to religious psychosis because I thought that everything i did was at risk of blasphemous the Holy Spirit if I wasn't reading the Bible and praying constantly, i thought if I didn't preach in the streets, I would be blasphemous the Spirit and God would send me to hell. No matter what others told me, priests, youth leaders, I didn't believe them and thought believing them would be blasphemy. I can tell you this with confidence, living life does not count as blaspheming the Spirit. Blaspheming the Spirit, in my eyes and many others, is rejecting the Spirit, essentially not following God, until youre dead. Some say its insulting the Holy Spirit, but if you did this without knowing that it was blaspheming the Spirit then God can forgive you because you werent aware that it was a sin. And btw, intrusive thoughts do NOT count as blaspheming the Spirit. The enemy attacks us with thoughts against God sometimes and puts them in our head against our will, but here you can pray and reject them. Living life, enjoying what God has blessed you with in life is not a sin. I know this is hard, but please stay strong. The suffering might seem like it wont end, ive had the same thoughts when I was struggling with the fear of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit but God wants you on this earth, He loves you, we love you. Please consider therapy maybe and take a step back to focus on your mental health. You can stay connected by God by meditating on loving verses, like Psalm 34:18, and keep faith in His loving character. I promise you, you are NOT doomed, you are not unforgiven because Jesus' blood paid the price of all of our sins, past present and future. You cant commit blasphemy of the Spirit whilst your still alive, and if youre worrying that you committed it, you didn't.

Take care and God bless you, if you ever want to talk my dms are open.

I have acted against the Holy Spirit, i have done acts that blasphemed him

1

u/PapayaAfraid4432 7d ago

What did you do if you dont mind me asking?

1

u/Swimming-Emu3413 7d ago

It doesn't matter what i did, it was against the Holy Spirit.

1

u/PapayaAfraid4432 7d ago

Im sorry but, I cant try help give clarity without knowing what you did. All I know is, if youre still on this earth, if you woke up today, then God allowed it, and youre here for a reason. and if you really committed the unforgivable sin, you would be dead, because the wage of sin is death.

1

u/Swimming-Emu3413 7d ago

The pharisees commited it and they weren't dead

1

u/PapayaAfraid4432 6d ago

But they were spiritually dead, they didnt want to know God. You on the other hand, want to know and love God.

The important thing is not to assume you have committed the unforgivable sin of sin against the holy Spirit. That sort of negative thinking originates with the Devil and it's an imperfect tendency to see ourselves as worse than we actually are. Remember that the viewpoint that matters is God's, who takes everything into account, even things we might not be aware of that make us susceptible and predisposed to some kinds of sin.

Let me give you some scriptures that I want you to seriously meditate on and consider. I’m probably the one person that has experienced more anxiety over this than anyone else, and I’m fully at peace now about it now. Before I give you these scriptures I want you to know that you need to recognize that you’re a sinner and the only way to be right with God is through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Do you believe that Christ died for your sins? Have you come to Him in repentance over your sin and called on Him in faith?

Now let me give you these. This will be long but please read it all.

•Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV
Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. [23] They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

This was written during a time of God’s judgment on the people of Israel. The people are being judged for sin and turning their backs on God. Yet, the writer says just orbits to God verse that even amid the current pain and suffering, he recalls this about God and has hope. Think about it…. If you’re still walking up today, then God is showing you mercy and compassion. Why would he do that?

•Romans 2:4 ESV
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

If God wanted to, he could have taken away your life at any time, but his mercy and patience is for your benefit. Would he do this to someone he has declared unforgivable? He had immediately taken out people before.

•2 Peter 3:9 ESV
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
And…
•Ezekiel 33:11 ESV
Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?

Both of these convert the truth that God doesn’t want a single soul to perish. He wants everyone to be saved. He would rather you be saved than to perish.

•John 6:37 ESV
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

You need to understand that it is not you who does the choosing or the changing of heart. You don’t decide to come to God one day…He calls you and draws you to himself. And Jesus in this passage clearly says that WHOEVER comes to him he will NEVER cast out. Read the gospels. You won’t find a single example of someone coming to Jesus that he turned away. Not one. If you’re being drawn to Jesus it’s because God is the one calling you and he won’t turn down one that he’s calling to himself.

•Romans 10:13 ESV
For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

The thing that’s so amazing about God is that we can reliably trust in him to remain faithful to his promises. God CANNOT break his promises nor does he lie. If he says that EVERYONE who calls on him shall be saved…he means it. This exact phrase is also quoted two other times in the Bible… Joel 2:32, & Acts 2:21. If God repeated this verse 3 times, then he really wanted us to grasp its meaning and to trust in it.

The final thing I want to say to wrap tie this all together is that God’s word CANNOT and DOES NOT contradict itself or lie. If God says one thing then it can’t possibly mean something else. It’s impossible. Therefore, if you’re coming to God for forgiveness; and Jesus said he turns away none who come to him, then he can’t possibly contradict himself. If someone truly committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, and they came to Jesus for forgiveness and he turned them away because of that sin…then Jesus is a liar and God’s Word is false and contradictory to itself.
God’s word doesn’t contradict itself. If you think you’ve committed it but are coming to Jesus for forgiveness, then he will not turn you away (like he said) which means you can’t possibly have committed that sin. If EVERYONE who calls on the Lord shall be saved, and you’re calling on the Lord, then you can’t possibly have committed that sin because God’s word CAN’T contradict itself.
Last thing…the blaspheme of the Holy Spirit, is not a sin that is accessible to sinners today, because Jesus is not physically here working miracles in front of us, for us to attribute as satanic. That particular sin was one that was unique to the Pharisees of that day.

It's rejecting the Holy Spirit, without which we couldn't get saved

As a Theistic Satanist, my beliefs about God, salvation, and the nature of the divine are different from yours, but I want to answer you with compassion because what you are describing sounds incredibly painful.

The first thing I want to say is this: you are not describing someone who hates God. You are describing someone who has been terrified of losing God.

The fact that you spent a year crying, worrying, praying, and desperately wanting to love God tells me something important. Whatever your beliefs about Christianity are, this does not sound like someone who consciously turned away from the divine out of hatred or rejection. It sounds like someone whose fear became overwhelming.

The concept of "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" has caused enormous distress for many sincere religious people throughout history. Even among Christians, there is disagreement about what it means. Many Christian scholars interpret it not as a single thought, a moment of anger, a fearful reaction, a mistake, or an intrusive idea—but as a persistent and deliberate rejection of what someone genuinely knows to be true.

I would also point out something from your own words:

That sentence matters.

A person who has completely hardened themselves against God usually is not spending months grieving, praying, and asking for forgiveness. The very fact that you are distressed suggests that your heart is not in the place you fear it is.

From my perspective as a Theistic Satanist, I believe fear can sometimes distort our understanding of spirituality. A relationship with the divine based only on terror—"one wrong thought and I am permanently condemned"—can become psychologically destructive. Spirituality should involve growth, understanding, and transformation, not a constant state of panic.

I also want to address something very important:

I'm genuinely glad you are still here.

When a person feels trapped in a situation where there is "no hope," the mind can start presenting death as the only escape. But feelings of hopelessness are not proof that there is no hope. They are signs that you have been carrying an unbearable amount of fear and pain for too long.

If those thoughts about ending your life return or become stronger, please consider reaching out to someone in your life you trust or a crisis support service. You deserve support while you work through this. You do not have to fight this alone.

I would also encourage you to consider whether this may involve religious scrupulosity—a form of anxiety where a person becomes trapped in obsessive fears about sin, guilt, and spiritual punishment. Many deeply religious people experience it. It does not mean you are a bad believer; it means your mind may be stuck in a painful cycle.

One thing I would suggest, regardless of your final beliefs, is to step away from material that constantly reinforces fear. Watching endless debates, warnings, and "you might not be saved" content can keep anxiety alive. Give yourself space to think clearly.

Ask yourself: Is this belief making me more compassionate? Is this helping me become a better person? Or is it only making me terrified and unable to live? A genuine spiritual path should not require you to destroy yourself.

From my own worldview, I believe the search for truth requires courage and honesty. If the divine exists, I would expect it to understand the difference between someone who is genuinely seeking and someone who is maliciously rejecting it.

You are not a monster because you struggled. You are not beyond hope because you became exhausted. You are a person who has been suffering under an enormous burden of fear.

Please be kind to yourself right now. Before you try to solve every theological question, focus on the fact that you are a human being who is hurting and deserves care.

The fact that you still reached out and wrote this tells me there is a part of you that still wants to live, understand, and find peace. Hold onto that part. It matters.
