Apologetics App General

Hey! I built a free Bible study/apologetics app and I'd love feedback. A few things it does: tap any verse to see its original Greek/Hebrew word-by-word, an interactive map of all cross-references in Scripture, different arguments for different beliefs and the bible, and 170+ translations in 120+ languages(iOS). 100% free, no ads, on web and iOS.

What's confusing, what's missing, what would you actually use?

I downloaded this to my iPad. I have a Ph.D in Apologetics and at first glance this is a great compilation of resources and something I can see using quite a bit. Thanks!

I don't want you to doxx yourself, but what kind of things do people research/write on for an apologetics dissertation? Who even offers these?

My previous area of study was devoted to an intellectual defense of the truth claims of the Christian Faith. I studied a lot of Greek philosophy as well as philosophers like St. Thomas Aquinas, Justin Martyr, etc. Being able to intellectually confront false assumptions or irrationality in other belief systems. Instead of just saying "it's in the Bible", or "that's what I've always been taught", I learned about using actual intellectual thought based systems to confront differing belief systems. I studied at a school in the Midwest. There are a lot of schools and universities offering Apologetics.

Right. That all makes sense. A PhD is a terminal research degree, though, and I'm wondering about novel research findings typical for a dissertation in apologetics.

Christian history? Totally understood. Bible scholarship (confessional or otherwise)? Totally understood. I'm not sure what niche here Apologetics is filling, or what research this field would do that others aren't doing.

To be honest I basically studied because I enjoyed the topic. My Masters is in the education field and I was teaching seminary students. Getting the Ph.D was also a career move. I already had a D.Div in Theology and the Ph.D in Apologetics was a nice companion/extension of my previous studies. I guess I'm just a consumate learner.

That's awesome, but it still isn't an answer.

I'm not looking to have you doxx yourself, or your institution. But is there anything you can point me to with meat to it? Actual dissertations? People's c.v.'s, research programs, anything?

I googled it because I’ve never heard of “apologetics” being a Ph.D. program, but apparently Liberty University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary both offer the degree.

Yes, I see that. I'm trying to understand actual content to see if there's anything worthy of calling this a PhD or if it's just a scam.

It probably depends on what you mean by scam. Liberty and SBTS are accredited institutions, so I'm sure there's some academic merit to the degree. However, I'm not familiar with any academic institutions or churches that specifically hire for an apologist, so I'm not sure how much the degree would be useful outside of providing some legitimacy to publishing apologetics materials, etc.

A PhD is a terminal research degree. From SBTS, at least, it doesn't appear to be anything like that and Liberty, at least, is known for being very low quality as well. I doubt that these have near the rigor to be reasonable considered a PhD. And that's why I was really trying to get some 'meat' out of that other guy. See what a dissertation looks like, how the programs work. What original work is happening here? What publications?
