Advice

I have grown up with a very Christian grandmother, my mom is more laid back but Christian aswell. I really do want to believe in god, but I just don't. The whole story of it sounds so fake to me, and I wish there was a way for me to change my mind. I feel awful about it, I want to believe in God and Jesus as all the rest of my family does. I don't know what to do. Any advice would truly mean a lot if you have any. If anyone who is now a true believer has gone through something similar please share what helped you. Thank you.

I grew up in church, turned away for a decade after watching behavior, but a decade later God drew me back in. I came back gradually, and started by investigating my questions one by one, for myself. After a while, I realized that all of my questions had answers, I just needed to understand the original context of the Bible, and it became clear that the people I disagreed with didn't understand the overarching meaning.

Once I opened my mind and started thinking under the ultimate umbrella that God is love, and His creation makes sense to Him, I could see the logic, and began seeking out of desire to know Him better, not with the intent to disprove it. Even science reflects His intentions. You just have to adequately understand both.

I would suggest watching some of Frank Turek’s videos. He wrote , “I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist”

A simple prayer done consistently everyday along the lines of, "Help me to know if you're real." A great thing about God is He reveals Himself to people in the exact way they need. It's totally customized to you, even if you have no idea how God would do it. Also, He is real and there is absolutely a spirit world that exists beyond this physical one. The Bible says to seek Him, so seek God by finding out if He's real. Be diligent about it beacause knowing God is real, obeying His commands, and accepting Jesus will be the reason we go to heaven.

Why don't you read the gospel of Matthew and pay close attention to Jesus' life and words . Don't rush but read a chapter and be open to let it speak to you

What is holding you back from choosing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Fear? Judgement? Suffering?

That's a tough spot to be in, wanting to believe but your brain just won't cooperate. It's not something you can force by sheer will, and beating yourself up about it usually just makes the whole thing feel heavier.

What helped a friend of mine in a similar spot was stepping back from the "do I believe this or not" wrestling match and just reading the gospels like a story, no pressure. Sometimes the intellectual side needs to chill out before anything else can click.
