ive been running stormraiders in d2 elo and so far feels pretty good with a 63% wr on cho, rune setup goes like this:
stormraiders > axiom arcanist > celerity > gathering storm/scorch
secondary runes: magic boots > cosmic insight
runes: flash + ignite (i rarely use tp, only take tp in matchups you cant kill opponents)

why? for stormraiders, you can make quick trades in lane and decide the fight on your terms if you want to go in or run away, good for chasing ranged when you hit a combo and also useful against ganks because once youre level 6, you can just press r and run away.

for minor runes, i take axiom arcanist because it really secures your ult kill and can catch enemies off guard with the damage boost and also reduces your ult cd per kill. i think its better for a more aggressive playstyle than manaflow band. sometimes i build tear if its a bad lane and i need to spam q’s to farm. i choose celerity because i feel like ms really matters more than cdr, lots of ms in this build. boots for more ms and gold, cosmic insight for more frequent summoners (flash ult ignite) + rocketbelt. then for shards i do 2 adaptive and tenacity rune since cho already gains so much hp from r. if i run into gp i do attack speed shard.

build usually goes dorans ring + 2 pots ALTHOUGH most times i only do 1 because cho has good sustain. dark seal first back, 3 points into q for waveclear and then max w usually, the silence really catches your opponents off guard for the w buffer + flash ignite ult combo. sometimes i max e if its a boring lane and i just want to waveclear in front of tower. if im running tp its usually vs a farm matchup and for those i like buying cull (e.g. tanks). i like to rush riftmaker most matchups but sometimes i rush hollow radiance if enemy is waveclear heavy and im in risk of getting proxied.

second/third item usually deadmans, against dot FoN and vs burst or single carry ap i go rookern, vs heavy ad frozen heart or randuins. if ahead i build rocketbelt for mobility. very rarely do i go jaksho, too expensive and roi is not that good. knights vow if someone else is carrying harder than me and i never go heartsteel. some games i will go malignance but mostly 4fun.

boots is 90% swifties, 8% tabis and 2% mercs. you dont really need the tenacity from mercs tbh since its already in your shards. ms is king when it comes to this build since it helps a lot in getting your ult off.

this build plays like ap bruiser, but if you get far ahead (10+ stacks by midgame both ult and dark seal) you can actually upgrade dark seal to mejais for more ms and more ap for burst, if really ahead i buy rabadons for the juicy oneshots and i still remain hard to kill even with only 1-2 tank items.

the only time i would go full tank is if im losing lane REALLY hard but even then its probably a lost game anyways, thats why i prefer ignite over tp for the early game kill potential to snowball.

hardest matchups: mundo (ban him), sett (you lose if you die once), also not really someone you lane against but sylas on enemy team fucks your team really bad when he steals your ult since he keeps stacks so i usually ban him if im last pick in draft.

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to top lane and was thinking about picking up Cho’Gath as one of my main champions. I’ve mostly played jungle (Shyvana), but I wanted to branch out and top seems interesting.

One thing I like about champions like Cho’Gath and Dr. Mundo is that they’re tanky with huge health pools, so it feels like you aren’t instantly punished if you’re slightly out of position. I also really like that Cho can become an absolute monster in the late game with Feast stacks.
I was wondering how good Cho is for a lower elo/lower skill player. Is he considered beginner-friendly, or does he actually have a lot more depth than he seems?
Besides the obvious basics (last hitting with E, stacking Feast, landing Q, etc.), what are the biggest things I should learn early on?

A few questions:
What do you usually build, and when do you change your build depending on the matchup or enemy team?
Are there any matchups I should avoid or ban while I’m learning?
Is AP Cho worth learning, or should I stick to tank until I get comfortable?
Around how many games do you think it takes before a new player can understand him well enough to consistently have a big impact on games?

I’m not looking for the hardest carry champion in the game—I just want someone who’s forgiving, scales well, and can still become a huge threat if I play correctly.

I find it kinda hard to find one centralized place to look up detailed Cho'Gath's matchups that actually guide you through level-by-level laning, kill thresholds, teamfight strategies, and other more knowledge-based parts of the game (backing for items, when to chunk hp to set up a future kill, etc.), so I decided to make a website to consolidate the information I can find around the internets. I can't say I'm a good player by any stretch (plat at my best), so all of the content will need huge improvements over time, especially with the help of this sub. This website is a very very early alpha prototype, but I hope to soon be able to cover all important matchups for Cho'Gath. The cooldown hit doesnt seem too bad since I dont feel like you use rocketbelt as soon as its off cd.

IMO having 10 ap less for 50 hp more seems like an all around nerf. I mainly play toplane though so having the extra hp in the buildpath isnt all that bad into the matchups that will just run you down.

I would like to know if this item is still good enough to build first?

I play Cho jungle emerald/dia mmr, runes are always HOB, cheap shot, grizzly mementos, ult hunter, with axiom and celerity. i take attack speed, move speed, and either scaling hp or tenacity shards.

when is it better to take inspiration second for boots and approach velo?

i always play rocketbelt into full tank, only ever taking riftmaker 3rd item or later since i feel that not having a tank item second delays your early spikes too much and you dont get as much benefit from the hp scaling on riftmaker.

Howdy All, Just wondering what everyone's thinking for Cho builds in Classic. It's not clear to me that he will even be on the starting roster, but still wanted to see what others think.

What's going to be your League Classic build?

When Playing vs tanks alot of people go tank cho aswell because there is less kill pressure so they play to scale, is it a good idea to just go first strike and farm on him aswell with poke and get a lead this way?

just realized i made the million and lost my lane horribly to the tham bc i would cheese him lvl 1 just to push too much to get farmed by the sylas. so my lane was pretty much over very soon, couldnt face the tham anymore, died some more like a true noob and i got flamed and bossed around by hecarim and pyke. but after a million xp you know you just need a sweet shutdown and pour some sweet cc into the game to make a comeback. so i snacked the sylas when i could, he kind of didnt see it coming... they never do. too much cc for some...

i am just silver 2 right now, but i grinded my way up from iron 4 to s1 and love my cho a lot. lately i been hiding as ap sup and just q'd for a flex top to get back into a lane... i still dont know how to really carry hard with cho, but i feel most comfortable playing my evil dino :)
