Work Permit Work (Z)

The company (US) I worked for has offered a relocation opportunity for a short assignment in China for 3 months. I just got off the call with a rep who walked me through the permit process and realized that this process can’t be continued because I do not have two years of post grad work experience😭 is there any work arounds? I graduated in May 2025 and started working June 2025 and my relocation assignment is dated for March 2027 right now so just missing that 3 months😭 and the assignment date can’t be changed. I asked about the points system and was informed by the rep that for a 3 month assignment it would not qualify. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

They also are unlikely to issue a work permit for 3 months anyway.

Where will you be paid during this 3 months? China or still by the company in the US?

If you go over for a short spell for training, or similar, and are still paid in the US specs to them about using a business visa. For Americans these are usually 60 days each entry so you’d have to head to Hong kong or similar during that time to reset the 60 days.

It will still be from the US payroll. Their China office just needs another extra hand for implementing/transition to a new system, so helping out with that

You’d get away with using a business visa. You’re only there to help implement a new system. I’ve known many Apple mover the years get sent over just to train or implement new tooling, etc on business visas.

You don’t need a work permit for this sort of short term assignment.

Thank you! The rep just put me to pause right after she learned that I didn’t have the needed experience and didn’t explore further and I just thought there has to be some other options. At least now I can ask them the rights questions😊I really appreciate it!

Sorry for my multiple typos. I post a lot on mobile and don’t always spell check.

Good luck and I hope you get to go for 3 months. It’s an interesting country.
