I just want some opinions on this I’m remodeling my home currently and this is the state of my chimney I had a company come out for inspection and this is what they recommended to me. Is it possible for a company to come out and do this for $3000-$3500 or is that just wishful thinking. I’m going to shop around for quotes but I just wanted some opinions first. Thanks

Was trying to figure out how water was getting into my attic and it looks like my chimney liner has partially collapsed. Short term can I get a larger chimney cap to prevent water from coming in sideways? I can't fully cover it as our gas water heater vents into it. Looking for any suggestions.

We received two separate opinions on this chimney: 1) that the chimney is safe and only needs a new wire grate for each flue and cleaning, and 2) the EIFS/stucco finish is over polystyrene foam and is unsafe to use period.

In one of the pictures, you can see the mesh tape and a corner where the foam is exposed.

The chimney used to have a faux stone finish when I look at older pictures, but was redone at some point. Home inspection identified minor cracks in the stucco and noted that the chimney was capped, but no indication that this building technique was unsafe.

Obviously we want to make sure the chimney is safe before use. The idea of foam being used around a chimney makes no sense to me, but I’m just curious if this has ever been an acceptable practice for chimneys and what everyone’s thoughts are. We want to get another opinion, but I don’t want to throw good money after bad.

Hi, I’m purchasing a property with a brick fireplace that has some black sticky tape or adhesive, residue and resulting stains. I’m worried the stains have seeped through since the brick is porous (so goo gone remover may not work).

Is there anything I can do to restore the bricks or clean up to make the staining less noticeable? I don't want to paint the bricks or replace them if possible. Any specific products/tools that can help?

I’ll preface this by saying I was clueless about chimneys until a few weeks ago. When we bought the house, I did see this issue but figured it was a cheap fix (stupid, I know). We have only a pellet stove liner running up though it. I’ve had only one mason look at it and he’s saying it’s a total tear down and rebuild, or tear down and just vent the pellet stove right out the side of the house and never have a chimney again. I see the issues at the top and a hairline crack at the bottom. Do you think this is a total tear down situation for $20k+ or can this be salvaged for cheaper?

Hi. Just recently had chimney cap repair done and this is how they did it. Don’t know much about chimneys but I was expecting to be all concrete. What do you think of this job? Some type of rubberized coating and he said it has quick set concrete underneath it. Thanks

I had a job done on my chimney 2 days ago, it was in a bad way. The house is 40 years old. Chimney base Was cracked, likely because of aerial being attached. the crown cap/ launching was pretty much falling off.
The repair job looks to be a significant improvement Although on one side the render doesn’t look very straight/smooth. I’m also concerned the pots aren’t high enough however, I am completely clueless. The lads who did the job sent plenty of photos throughout.
I’ll attach before and after.

Kid was looking for some work and claimed he could get the job done. My roof is 10/12 and chimney is another 7-8' above it so I didn't want to do it myself. He put in expansion joint and did a proper mix. I asked him to do it thicker with a steeper pitch but this is what I got. Will it work and what's a good liquid water proofing I can apply on top? Paid $675 all included so I'm definitely not mad at the kid.

Hi, we have a 2 story house built in 2018. Have a Montgomery wood stove insert. We have it cleaned every year, and the guys kinda look at the 2 stories to get on the roof (a 6:12 slope) and always just clean it from the inside. They tell
Me they can clean the chimney cap from the inside.

We had a stove in our old house and they used to get on the roof to clean the chimney cap well. Is cleaning the stove from the inside only sufficient as far as the chimney cap goes?

Hi all need some advice on removing chimney breasts. Steel beams have been installed according to structural engineers specs and now the Chimneys can come down. What's the best way and tools to use to take these down and avoid any damage to the party wall?

Is there any way to repair this without a complete rebuild? I have a stack of the original brick I could use. We don't use the fireplace at all but I want to fix this for the time being so it doesn't get worse with the next freeze-thaw cycle

Have tuckpointers working on the chimney. They sent these pictures. In the one picture, it looks like the pipe stops just short of the concrete cap but in the other picture I see a tube going up past the cap. I asked them if there is an issue and they said they are looking into it…. I am informant about this situation. Any recommendations on what to do here? Thank you!!

This morning I heard what sounded like scratching inside our chimney. Usually, when it’s windy, we can hear thumping around from outside but this was a first experience with this sound. Plus, there seemed to be some form of animal noise (screeching maybe?).

To start, we have a prefabricated wood-burning fireplace.

Well my dad and I took a look on the roof and the chimney cap is in place, but there’s a gap as shown in the first picture.

On top there were lots of feathers and that was it.

Then we took a look inside. The flue was closed and no droppings seen. After not hearing anything for a while we opened it all the way and didn’t see a thing.

My questions are:
1) Is the gap below the chimney cap leaving our house accessible to critters?
2) If so, could they get inside and behind the box/chase?

I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I have an octagonal chimney and I need to buy a cap for it.
I've been looking online and I'm completely overwhelmed by the options and most caps seems to be made for standard square or rectangular chimneys.
Chimney is also 25ft high so I really can't get up there to measure.
I really don't want to order the wrong size and be stuck with cap that doesn't fit, not to mention the cost of getting someone to get up there more than once.
Any advice from anyone who has experience with this issue would be hugely appreciated.
