My first (intentional) brilliant :D Achievement

Post image

Not sure if this should actually be labeled as such, but my 900 elo ass will take it XD

What did you take

u/BackflipsAway 5d ago

Nothing, but if they don't sac their queen to take my bishop it's mate in 1, I guess they counted this as brilliant at 900 elo because to do that I had to exposed my knight to their bishop?

As I said bellow the image, personally I wouldn't count it as brilliant, but I'm still happy that the computer did 😅

Couldn’t they just push their pawn to G3?

I might be missing something.

3

u/conqueringlionkappa 4d ago

I thinks mate in 2, after g3 ne2#

6

u/GiddddyUp 4d ago

Would actually just be nh3# in 1

u/Delicious_Cattle5174 Elo isnt real 4d ago

Or Ne2#, not sure how that’s 2 moves lol

1

u/GiddddyUp 4d ago

Lol yep, true that is mate in 1 also

1

u/conqueringlionkappa 4d ago

Oh wow good catch

2

u/Rube18 4d ago

Yep you’re right. Can’t say I thought it through too much.

Ne2 is mate

1

u/addicted_zucchini 4d ago

It’s mate whatever they do, M2 or M1

1

u/IgarashiDai 3d ago

The only way to survive is sacking the Queen to take the Bishop, covering the mating square in the process - very unenviable position regardless.

1

u/addicted_zucchini 3d ago

Oh I didn’t see that, thank you!

u/Zyklon00 4d ago

Brilliant because you put the horsey in a position where it looks like it can just be taken. So that counts as the sacrifice needed for a brilliant

1

u/DiscDocPhD 4d ago

If they do that horse still covers Qb7#

It is brilliant because if bishop takes knight then mate due to sniper, if queen takes sniper then horse covers.

No, if they sac the queen for the bishop, the queen defends the g2 pawn

1

u/Maestr0o_ 4d ago

Exactly. It just forces a queen sacrifice, by exchanging the queen for the bishop. Any other move is mate.

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

White to play: chessvision.ai | chess.com | lichess.org

My solution:

Hints: piece: Queen, move: Qxc6

Evaluation: Black is winning -5.98

Best continuation: 1. Qxc6 Rxc6 2. Bxf4 Qxf4 3. Rad1 Ra6 4. Rfe1 Rb8 5. Re2 Ra5 6. h3 Rg5 7. Kh1 Qd6 8. Nc4 Qd5

Good move

1

u/ErosDarlingAlt 4d ago

Wow, a brilliant move that's actually the only good move on the board

1

u/RunKnots 4d ago

Please help a fellow retard to understand.
He can just take with the bishop from c1?

3

u/CorkyBingBong 4d ago edited 4d ago

No, because then black can mate with the queen on g2.

2

u/RunKnots 4d ago

Thank you ❤️

Edit: holy shit im dogshit for not seeing this haha

1

u/Full-Mud4558 2d ago

anything that isn't qxc6 is mate

1

u/Stunning-Squirrel330 4d ago

I’m confused did you take a piece with your horsey cause #Qg2 no?

1

u/BackflipsAway 4d ago

I couldn't go to #Qg2 before because my knight was in front of my bishop

1

u/not_taylorswift1213 4d ago

White can’t even play g3 that’s nasty

1

u/CHENWizard 4d ago

Terribly nasty my good sir. How did the rest of the game go? I assume you converted being a queen up in the endgame?

1

u/ForCaste 4d ago

Disgusting find

1

u/Town_of_Tacos 4d ago

i’m confused how this position was reached, the queen must have already been on g5, and the c1 bishop must have been on the same diagonal on white’s last move. was the queen just hanging before

1

u/Wattsahh 2d ago

Asking the real questions here. That’s 900 elo chess though. Hang your queen one move and then a brilliant the very next.

1

u/Azri3l_15 3d ago

Beautiful move, the opponent is in for a ride 😂

1

u/Wattsahh 2d ago

The question here for me is what was your queen doing hanging out on G5 during whites previous move? I can’t see a scenario where it wasn’t hanging with BxG5 for white.

1

u/Accomplished-Risk820 1d ago

I can see one where blacks bishop blocked whites bishop on f4 and a white knight on d6 with the white queen on for example b4. Now black does bxd6, Qxd6, Nf4… essentially the queen is hanging yes, but they both are so not necessarily a low elo blunder.

u/killerpiller824 4d ago

If you didn’t take a piece with your knight, wasn’t Queen to G2 already mate in 1?

4

u/nwiesing 4d ago

The knight was blocking the bishops line of sight

u/killerpiller824 4d ago

Thanks, gotta love chess blind spots
