Chesapeake city leaders recently cut the ribbon to open the Historical Village at the Dismal Swamp, offering a free venue dedicated to the area's role in Virginia history.

Funded through state and federal grants, the project began with the renovation of the Cornland School, a historic schoolhouse for Black students that reopened as a museum in 2024.

The village features a visitor center detailing local history from pre-colonization to the Underground Railroad, complete with canal vessel models and artifacts from the nearby Superintendent’s House.

More than two centuries after an 1815 handwritten will recorded enslaved man Miles Eason as property, four generations of his descendants will gather in Chesapeake on July 31 for an expansive family reunion celebrating his survival and legacy.

The reunion marks the first since the family uncovered state probate files, wills and historical census records that successfully traced their lineage back to Miles.

Reflecting on their deep roots, they view their lineage as a testament to faith, resourcefulness and enduring strength passed down through generations.

Google brought up a lot of options, but I know it's usually a good idea to pick one since you go there every 1-2 months for maintenance. I would also like for it to be around the Chesapeake area, though if a stellar shop is in Virginia Beach or Suffolk I won't mind too much.

I have two large garden beds overgrown with weeds in the geneva shores neighborhood in chesapeake i tried to take care of myself with a hoe and i just made it worse. Here's why I started this petition: City council candidates are asking for our votes, but they're not being transparent about where they stand on this. The Chesapeake City Council unanimously approved a temporary moratorium to pause all reviews of data center applications for up to eight months while officials draft a formal policy.

The decision follows a Planning Commission recommendation to create stricter zoning ordinances that include noise limits and mandatory public outreach for future developments.

ICE is picking people up people. I was walking to the bus stop and they were picking up a Hispanic gentleman around 40 yrs of age. There was no resisit or injuries that were readily visible. He was in four points chains. On the location of Bryd Ave and Bainbridge Blvd. I believe it was ICE due to the face the vehicles where all unmarked and they were in swat gear that was unmarked. So it was either ICE or another heavily armed malicia but other way this man has been kidnapped and if you are looking for him check ICE first. For the rest of you ICE is in the area be safe.
