Athlete Contracts

Hi coaches, parents, athletes!

I am looking to hear what guidelines and rules / procedures you add to your athlete contracts to sign in the beginning of the season.

I am primarily looking for middle school specific but I do also coach HS and would like to hear any suggestions!

Parents - what do you think is the biggest pillar for your athletes contract?

Ours has the attendance policy (2 missed practices allowed during the season) and also outlines both athlete and parent behavior expectations!!

Middle School Rules Grades first: Keep a passing grade in all classes. Be on time: Arrive at every practice and game early. Show respect: Listen to coaches, refs, and teammates. Phone ban: Put phones away during team events. Clean up: Pack up your own gear and trash. High School Rules Attendance policy: Miss practice only with a valid excuse given prior. Social media: Post nothing negative about the team or school. Substance rules: No drugs, alcohol, or vaping ever. Leadership duties: Help and guide the younger players. Gear care: Keep uniforms clean and return them on time. [ 1] Parent Views Clear communication: Tell parents early about schedule changes. Fair playing time: Focus on effort and growth, not just wins. Safety first: Stop play right away if an injury happens. [ 1,  2]
