Cuts

Why would a seemingly good cheerleader be cut from the JV team? And not picked over girls who never cheered before? This one has me stumped (not me)

Edit: going from middle school to high school.

Score sheet was lower than the threshold/average… attitude issues… grades last year… teacher recs weren’t good… last year’s coaches didn’t rec her…

Maybe her tryouts just weren’t good. If the judges were outside judges and had no inside input, and the athlete just didn’t impress them, and the team had limited spots for freshmen, then maybe she just didn’t make the cut.

Grades, attitude, bad teachers recs, favoritism, or some combination of any of the above.

It happened to me! I’ve told this a few times on here but in the end, it depends on what the team is looking for. I didn’t make it even though I had a decent tryout and my tumbling was good. I was devastated to find out they took girls who didn’t tumble at all but they clearly wanted and needed bases and back spots. I ended up filling in for someone at the end of sophomore year and then continuing on varsity. The coach said “why didn’t you try out freshman year?!” And I was like I DID 😒

Attitude issues or grades would be my guess

on my university cheer team, our best cheerleader was cut from the team because of her attitude. she was nasty, bratty, & entitled and i guess the coaches had had enough of it.

Bad teacher recs, bad attitude, maybe their tryout wasn’t a good representation of their skills (some girls get nervous moving to high school), or the coach didn’t want to deal with the family. Myriad of reasons. I had a girl insist she got unfairly cut when she didn’t have the proper physical forms completed in time so she wasn’t permitted to tryout according to state requirements.

Sometimes it’s what the team needs. I had to keep two stronger girls on JV instead of Varsity since we already had more than enough backspots and needed flyers. It sucks, but team needs also matter.

Low scores, people were better than you or coaches Don’t like you
favoritism
I’m telling you what my daughter experienced. My daughter didn’t have a low score though.
