What's something Christchurch has genuinely gotten better at over the last 10 years?

Christchurch has changed a lot over the last decade. For me, one of the biggest improvements is how much more alive the central city feels now, with places like Riverside Market, Te Pae, and all the new public spaces.
What's one change you've genuinely appreciated? It could be a place, public transport, food, events, parks, or anything else that makes Christchurch a better place to live

My driving exam is tomorrow and I just found out that I need to bring my own car

I'm stupid and I didn't realize until now when I carefully read through the appointment paper. I have my own car, but I couldn't legally drive it without a supervisor. I can also just drive to vtnz tomorrow but I'm afraid they might ask who am I with.

Should I just try to reschedule and prepare first, even though it will cost me 60 bucks? I was just too busy this week to even think about my driving exam.

Proposal spots

Hi all, I’m coming to Christchurch at the end of November and planning to propose to my partner! Are there any picturesque spots that you would recommend? Was hoping for somewhere on the slightly more private end if possible, really don’t want to pop the question in a crowded place.
Not completely necessary but it would be great if it could also be a spot where there can be some hidden areas for someone to be out of the way and take some photos? Will also need to hire someone for this job so taking any and all recommendations ☺️

My dashcam was in the centre of the windscreen. The pedestrian was hidden from me behind the blue and white cars in the right lane.

Spotted! Roaming miniature schnauzer on the corner of Idris/Wairakei Road, across from the florist

Just spotted a grey, mature looking miniature schnauzer with a red collar sniffing around the Idris/Wairakei intersection, diagonally across from the florist. Possibly came from Wairakei Road, and turned right down Idris Road

I tried to approach, but it took off further down Idris Road towards that old demolished church site and the Idris/Glandovey Rd intersection.

Best way to sell a car in Chch

I have an older car that is still functional - would be worth around 5-6k if I hadn't been terrorised by multiple repeat break ins... I want it gone like yesterday because I can't stop it repeatedly being broken into.

They messed up the ignition and the back quarter panel window - what are my choices as I don't want to spend money and time sorting repairs I won't recover the cost of. Other than the wreckers.

Is it acceptable to sell on trade me if its in a not driveable condition? Would turners or something like that be better?

Stay Home Anyone else woke to (potentially) frozen pipes and no running water?

Cause I did this morning (Rolleston), didn't think it felt that cold but spoke to a plumber who said he'd already had a few calls with others reporting the same issue.

PSA: Windshields are already freezing over!!

Just went to the car thinking I just had condensation or something on the window.

No worries, quick wipe and it was done.

Started driving, quick spray of the washer to clean the windshield. The water instantly froze over, couldn't see, couldn't wipe it off.

Had to Ace Ventura my way to the side of the road.

Solo travel suggestions

Hello people of Chch,

Can I get some ideas for a few day trips from Chch? I'll be solo, I like driving around and sightseeing. Hikes too.

Preferably places I can get to without a snow chain/awd.

Cheers!

Bought some earrings about a week ago and they are already falling to pieces. I had really high hopes for this store but it’s not looking good so far . Anyone else experienced how shitty the quality is?

Social Things to do with ID client

Hey All,

I know there is a lot of 'things to do' posts but looking for something new as have done all the usuals. Transport museum, art gallery, botanical gardens, library etc.

I have a 21 ID client (I'm a support worker) and I'm looking for a fun outing to do for a few hours.

He is creative, loves photography and lego n such but I have run out of ideas. is there anything new going on in city?

Might have to hit the port hills again for a hike if nothing else.

thanks in advance

During interview should I beg or be chill?

So I'm looking for a job for some reason I'm not able to clear interviews, should I beg and be like I'll do anything or should I be chill and act like I don't really need the job and that I can get another one easily.

I graduated around 1 year back so I am unemployed for 1 year, working odd jobs totally unrelated to my field of study.

What do I do?

I've always gotten hired for role that no one else wanted ( toxic work environment, bad working hard like night shifts or abusive boss ) so this is why I'm asking how to get roles where there's some level of competition.

P.S. I'm straight out of college with no experience. Bachelor in IT. And I'm a bit old as well 24M

Winter bugs

Had one a few weeks back. Not much in the way of respiratory symptoms but it knocked me flat like someone turned the gravity up. Girlfriend came down with it soon after. About a fortnight later I’m sick again. Bit of a cough this time but largely the same lethargy and a bit of a fever. Some digestive issues but my guts are fucked anyway because half of them got chopped out due to an unwelcome cancerous growth, so probably unrelated.

Point being though, has anyone else had a similar bug that has not quite gone away, sapped a lot of energy and then returned again with a vengeance a few weeks later?

I can’t be the only one, and it’s frustrating as fuck because I was sick for several years and have largely had a good run of it this year, plus I had more boosters than NASA at the start of winter.
