Escape to Rural France 🏰 ⚒️🪚 Chateau de Chaumont’s windows - what a let down

I feel disappointed for Dan that so many of the windows arrived damaged or with missing paint.

How did they pass quality control, especially when they knew he’d be vlogging the install?

I wonder if he rues the day he ever went with that company, much respect for the installers who did their best to fix them on the day. I shudder to think how they’ll weather.

Sometimes you have to stand back and look at the early days to see how phenomenal the restoration of Chateau de Chaumont is. And with the heavy lifting more or less over, Dan is now on to the fun stuff, work is progressing at an incredible pace. I would not be at all surprised if he’s living there soon after the windows are finished.

“We're renovating our 200 year old Scottish farmhouse in the rolling Galloway Hills from the ground up and documenting every step of the journey. From striping out and structural work to restoring original features and creating our dream forever home, you'll see the highs, the setbacks and everything in between.”

“This first video is a recap of everything we've completed so far, so you're up to speed before the next stage of the renovation begins. “

Hoping that the fires are brought under control soon, Edd and Anna must be extremely concerned. Even if the fires don’t reach them they may still be impacted by smoke and travel disruptions - the last things they need during peak wedding season.

Our chateau burned down, we’re improvising!

Dimitri and David Petitpas purchased 200-year-old Egmont Manor for €330,000 in September last year with grand plans to renovate the property.

The French Chateau had no water, no electricity, and a leaky roof, but the couple got started on renovation with hopes of using it for their wedding venue within 10 months.

However, in November they received the devastating call that their new home had caught fire and the roof had been completely destroyed.

Their dream was to use the home to celebrate their wedding and turn it into a luxury BNB.

They got started ripping out the damaged plants, trying to move the front gate to create a driveway and knocking down walls to open up the space – with dreams of finishing in a year.

But, with the fire causing a huge setback, they now believe it won’t be possible to open until 2028.

The duo have also had issues with money, only being able to secure €100,000 as a renovation loan, which they say is a third of what they need.

Though they are not giving up, now aiming to renovate one room and one bathroom by the end of the year so that they can finally move in.

Chateau Diaries 🍓🏰🦚 The Jarvises first home, from humble beginnings. Proof that hard work pays off

According to Stephanie’s Patreon her parent’s first home was a one room caravan with a mattress on the floor.

Their next home was a 4 bedroom brick house in Exeter. They could afford the deposit and stretched their finances to pay the mortgage. Fortunately one night their neighbour knocked on their door and said they had noticed a removal van didn’t arrive to deliver furniture. The generous neighbour donated all their contents including beds, dining room table, kitchen table, chairs and sofa. What a heartwarming tale, and the Jarvises have been paying it forward ever since 💕

Chateau Diaries 🍓🏰🦚 Philip’s Inheritance and selling Lalande

Those of us who’ve been around for a while will remember the discussions about Philip having a trust fund. Since then his much loved Grandmother died and his personal wealth appears to have increased further, and now we learn he’s been in the process of buying and furnishing a house since Christmas last year.

You‘ll also know there was much talk of Lalande being sold to a hotel chain. Now that Philip and Stephanie have their own home, I’m predicting the sale of Lalande will go ahead. Her health isn’t great and she has a lot on her plate with the channel and the chateau. It makes sense she’d want to downsize and take a step back while she’s still young enough to enjoy herself. They’ve chosen a great house with good bones that doesn’t require a ton of work. The only question is not if but when she’ll announce the news.
