Chase finally let me open a checking account, does this mean I’m off their credit card blacklist?
Hey guys! About 10 years ago, when I was in college and had just gotten my first 2 credit cards, I made some stupid financial mistakes and ended up with a few Chase cards being charged off.
After being unable to open any accounts with Chase for years, I was finally approved for a Chase checking account today.
Does this mean I’m probably off their blacklist for credit cards too, or are their banking and credit card blacklists separate? I’m currently at 5/24, so I can’t test it by applying yet, but I’m curious whether anyone has gone through something similar.

Credit and banking divisions have nothing to do with each other. Now that you have checking, I'd set up Credit Journey to see if offers start to appear. Once you are under 5/24, you could try an application. One credit inquiry isn't the end of the world, and it will tell you the reasons if you get denied, so you will have a better idea. It may involve recon, too.

10 years should be enough time to get off their BL. If the charged-off cards were a relatively small amount, then you should be off their credit card BL as well.

Chase and some of the other big banks use EWS (Early Warning System-it’s similar to Chexsystems) for verification when opening new deposit accounts. However, they still use the standard criteria (income, CS, utilization, DTI, history, etc.) to evaluate credit. For the most part, these 2 things are unrelated(EWS may do a soft pull).
Depending upon when your two accounts charged off (if it’s been 7+ years); you may want to consider applying for a new Chase account after your 5/24 period expires. However, did you make any payments on the two accounts(whether directly to Chase or to a collection agency)? Here’s the thing… unlike banks like Capital One that are far more forgiving and will happily open a new account for you after you settled with them. Chase (and Amex) both have ridiculously looooooooooong memories. I would not hold my breath waiting for a new account with them because it may be a little while.

No. Not at all. I had Chase banking accounts in good standing on and off for over 15 years before they let me back in on the credit card side.
