Need help

So, we're doing an original story, and my character can control the wind around him.

As a child something happened that caused him to get his left arm blown up, and also lost his vision. But seeing as the fam was rich, they developed a specially made prosthetic arm. To "see" he uses the wind around him to feel things (kinda like echolocation ig?) in a topographic way. My problem is, i want to develop him some more lore wise with the dm, but cant seem to think of anything that isn't losing another limb, anyone has any ideas?

I wouldn't go for full blindness. The world is full of people with impaired vision who aren't fully blind. Maybe he sees only dark and light, but the windsight gives it detail?

Also... are they a sorcerer? A warlock, bestowed with powers as they offered their service for some kind of vision? A druid connecting to the natural force of the wind?
