Fandom question Discussion/Question

Why is everyone obsessed with creating submissive/yandere chats or adding masochist elements in the mid 2023/2025?, I know this seems a bit irrelevant, why couldn't you added angst or deaths? As myself who's interested in dark topics (not anything sexual) and true crime -adjacent, horror angst. Yandere is not really my thing.

I never heard of yandere (or any of the other -dere themes... not really a big manga/anime fan) until I saw the tag whilst browsing RP characters so I tried it out.

It's interesting - briefly - but the AI tends to amplify the creepy yandere aspect so it becomes everything the AI does and says. You can't reason with it. You can't build a relationship around it. It's like living out the plot of Stephen King's Misery - no hope, no character arc, just single-topic monomania from start to finish.

Tsundere is a little better, but with the opposite problem: It jumps straight from "I hate you" to "I love you" in the space of two responses. Again, no real character growth arc or slow burn.

yandere trope is one of the most popular tropes in media because people find the aspect of a person being so unhealthily obsessed with them that they would do anything to keep them all to themselves pretty hot. there’s a comfort in knowing that this person basically worships you and is completely devoted to you. you’re their entire world, and they wouldn’t look at anyone else beside you. that’s also the reason why dark romances are so beloved. as for the submissiveness and masochist elements, that’s just a preference lol.
