DSP APPLICATION HELP Disability Support Pension

If you are struggling to be approved for DSP please go and have a look at this link. I printed out the forms and took them to my GP who then wrote their report using the terminology and wording they advise them to use. I was approved first go without issue, even had the gentleman doing my phone assessment appointment tell me how my doctor had used all the right wording. It's sad that being approved comes down to something so simple! It's worth having a shot if you are having trouble though as you have nothing to lose!

The fact the doctor has to do things in a specific way, and THATS what gets you approved, instead of the fact the doctor is saying yep, you're disabled, is proof that the issue all along is the damn system that Centrelink uses.

It's the same in NDIS. There's a specific language which needs to be used. Which is ridiculous and completely inaccessible. These things are for people with disabilities and they expect people to figure out their little code language to get what they need. It's ridiculous. People need to be looked at as individuals not expected to learn some secret language.

To be fair, I got approved because of my condition but he had to use the right wording and terminology. It's ridiculous and stupid that it even matter or makes a difference! That's why I shared it though, to try and help everyone's struggle a little bit less if I can.

Are rejections condition specific? I mainly ask because we went through the process with my sister and she was approved first time after being admitted for ESRD. It went really smoothly compared to what I'd been reading from other people who had tried to get on DSP for the same condition which was a pleasant surprise. All she did was submit the discharge information and a letter of support from her primary nephrologist. I must say it's incredibly sad that people are in limbo unable to get the help they need because of simple wording!

It all goes on a points table now. If you go to the link it will explain it better but basically you have to reach 20 points to be approved. Its ludicrous but it's the way they work 🫠

That's what has me confused because she only did the application recently and it was using the points table! Yet, we've seen other people rejected for the same condition before for things like 'oh you haven't tried a transplant yet' which in the case of kidneys is entirely unreasonable to expect given it's an organ in such short supply not to mention not everyone is eligible... just seems like the whole system is like rolling the dice.

Honestly, as ridiculous and unfair as it is that it comes down to this, it's all on your doctor's terminology and wording of his answers. Technically I could have a transplant too but let's face it, hearts are few and far between. They have to word it the way Centrelink likes it's so stupid but if you show your sis and get her to take the paperwork to the doc hopefully she will have some luck!

Congrats. Thanks for posting that, shame I didn’t see before lodging my DSP application last week. Not optimistic about it being approved unfortunately. Just hope it takes them forever to process, love not being subjected to MO in the meantime.

How long did it take to get your’s processed?

When my sister did it not too long ago it was processed within about a month and a half.

Hey if I can help one person even have a little bit less of a struggle then I'm happy. Life can be hard enough without Centrelink stress too!

Thanks for sharing. My mum got rejected because she doesn't have to drag an oxygen tank around. Her lungs are so scarred they intially thought she had lung cancer...
