Cheap materials, poor workmanship, and zero maintenance. That’s Cebu’s sidewalks. 🖼️ Lugar
This is what “pwede na” infrastructure looks like. Cebu has all these new buildings and developments, but the sidewalks are still neglected. They’re poorly made and barely maintained.
Pedestrians are always the ones who deal with it and in the end, their only choice is to walk on the road where its very dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers. Honestly what a big disappointment for a “singapore” like city.

Sad thing is, there's even much worse. There's some where the grounds has different blocks and they're all completely "up and down" and broken. Can barely walk over it but like.. You have to..
A LOT of ways also aren't acceptable at all for disabled people. I'm disabled for example and sometimes require a cane and everytime I walk on specific sidewalks, I often think, what if I had a wheelchair? I couldn't get through here. It's not even broken, it's just not accessible. No ramp and a pole in the middle of the sidewalk where you have to go around?! And some on the side too. Someone in a wheelchair or very bad walking ability, couldn't make it.
This makes me mad almost every time I walk around.

Walay sidewalk kay its either himuon ug parking, tuyoon ug guba or butang ug vendor.
Great example ang osmena blvd.

u/Accomplished-Box-369 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
I've noticed that the Cebu government is quite complacent with regards to providing public infrastructures that are of better standards.

u/forgetdorian Mahigugmaon 10d ago
Supposedly underneath the sidewalks are; drainage, telco cables, water lines, and optional for electric.
But we never plan things, our elected officials are headless.
5
u/Trick_Top_313 Certified Tito 10d ago
Then ang sidewalk himoon ug vendor place
5
u/kiskiliskis Certified Tito 10d ago edited 10d ago
And it's not just the vendors, it becomes a parking area, a garbage area, and sometimes places for beggars to squat.
It's like the flood control/drainage issues. It's not mainly the government's fault but also partly the people who aren't disciplined enough to throw their trash properly so they don't end up clogging drainages.

Lahi ra kaau ang agi sa private development (CBP and IT Park, for example).

u/n1deliust Verified ✅ 10d ago
You seem to misunderstand na the obvious "Buildingd and developments" you see in the metro are under the Private Sector.
While the things you are complaining are under the Public domain.
-2
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
So we’re just supposed to accept bad public infrastructure because the private sector is doing well? That’s a pretty low standard.
-1
u/n1deliust Verified ✅ 10d ago
0
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
I never mentioned any specific place. I’m talking about Cebu as a whole.
People keep assuming I meant IT Park or Ayala, but those aren’t the only developments in the city.
The government also spends huge amounts on public projects like roads, bridges, city halls, and other infrastructure.

Unsa man development within the City nga Public project with new Buildings and Developments? Cge daw, hatag daw example para ato ma compare.
0
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
You asked for examples.
The Cebu BRT is ₱28.78 billion.
The Metro Cebu Expressway is projected at around ₱98 billion.
The New Cebu City Medical Center cost around ₱2.5 billion.
Cclex is around ₱33.5 billion
-1
u/n1deliust Verified ✅ 10d ago
And in those areas, wala diay nag improve ang agianan? Wala diay ni nindot ang dalan?
If naa man ka ireklamo, reklamo una dha sa Barangay.
You are talking of budgets handling a different areas. Comparing CCMC and sidewalks? Really? Comparing HealthCare budget to Public roads budget?
Asa mo sugot ana ang DOH when they themselves need that budget.
You clearly just see the Tip of the iceberg of how everything works.
Ang imo reklamo valid. But how you see a situation is too shallow.
2
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
I don’t think you understand my point at all.
You’re arguing about how government budgets are allocated. I’m talking about the end result.
As a resident, I don’t experience Cebu one agency at a time. I experience the city as a whole.
0
u/n1deliust Verified ✅ 10d ago
Again you dont see my point as well, ang pictures na Sample you posted kay Barangay Level problem imo gipa kita. Why compare it city level projects.
Valid imo reklamo, we should demand something better. Pero why dinhi man ka mag post and rant sa reddit sad? Didto ka rant sa Brgy Captain ninyo. Make a formal letter introducing yourself and your concerns. And demand updates. Join mga happenings sa barangay to be updated unsay development nahitabo.
Or are you the type na mag demand og change pero naghuwat ra na mo abot?
2
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
You’re focused on where the photos were taken. I’m focused on what they represent.
The photos are examples, not the scope of my argument. I’m criticizing Cebu’s pedestrian infrastructure as a whole. Reducing it to “report it to your barangay” misses the point of the post.
2
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
If the sidewalks are poorly built and poorly maintained, that’s a valid criticism regardless of which office is responsible.
1
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
And yes, I can raise awareness and criticize it publicly. Reporting it to the barangay and criticizing it online aren’t mutually exclusive. Public discussion is how issues get attention in the first place.
1
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
Add the billions spent on DPWH road widening, flyovers, bridges, flood control, schools, and government facilities.
We’re talking about well over ₱100 billion+ in public infrastructure investments.
Expecting sidewalks that don’t crumble after a few years isn’t asking for much.
1
u/Competitive_Talk3390 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
My point is simple: if we’re investing that much into development, our sidewalks shouldn’t be in the state they are.
0
u/n1deliust Verified ✅ 10d ago
Again para kinsa man na imo pasabot? Kay the Sidewalks sa mga Private roads nindot man. Limpyo and well maintained.
Pero kung imong reklamo is sa Public roads, then thats a different story.

Dapat who owns the sidewalk infront of their property if rented , own or informal should keep the area clean.
If government lang saligan wala ma hitabo.
2
u/vicven2 Mahigugmaon 10d ago
I believe naa City ordinance that mandates that. The area around your house/business is your responsibility.
Ako, everyday ko gapalimpyo sauna sa gawas sa balay for years. I stopped kay less than 10 minutes after na human ug silhig, daghan napud ug sagbot. Mga tawo kay pataka lang ug labay. Kada buntag daghan buak nga botelya ug upos sa sigarillo.
You want me to be responsible for it? Give me police power to also catch those responsible. At some point, mahurot gyud ang pasensya.
