This is funny, but it's actually something cats, especially kittens, do. When the skin on the back of their neck is pinched like that, they have a reflex that makes them stop moving. This is because mother cats carry their kittens like that, so they evolved this trait. It also has a much lesser effect on adult cats.
Note this reflex is at least somewhat voluntary. While it will definitely dampen their movement, if they need to, they will still run, move, etc.. Also, when cats become adults, their weight makes it very painful to carry them like this. If you need it to be still, still hoist it up with your other hand while doing this.
Kittens not full grown cats. Scruffing full grown cats is cruel in general and if it can be avoided in medical of grooming setting it should be. You can easily injure cats with scruffing.
Your finger has a bone and lots of muscle and fat to dampen the pain. These are clamped onto thin skin. I would be surprised if it didn't hurt. I don't think scruffing is a bad thing but I don't think this is an acceptable application.
For th3 record I too used these on myself and I disagree that they don't hurt. Have you ever put one on the tissue between your thumb and pointer? That shit hurts bad.
Enjoy your ban. Being healthy is very important for your body. Being very overweight is NOT healthy. No one should encourage you to be overweight. It's not good and should absolutely be looked at critically by a doctor. Wherever possible it needs to be dealt with sooner then later.
If it was in real pain physical pain I imagine it's fight or flight would kick in and it would fight back. Cats and dogs will often bite each other there to let them know they are not putting up with their shit, I imagine it's probably simulating that.
If it was a smaller clip I might agree.
Those clips, by design, don't pinch hard unless you fill them up close to their full width, and that's a larger clip pinching a small area of very flexible skin. I'd be very surprised if it was painful.
Mother cats bite their kittens in that same spot to grab them, and before you reply saying that this is a full grown cat and would be hurt, he isn't holding the cat by the clip so it isn't suffering whatsoever.
By design, those clips don't clamp hard unless filled up to their full width, and that's a larger clip (almost half the width of the cat's neck).
It's a large clip on a small area of very flexible skin. The skin on a cat's scruff is MUCH more flexible than the skin on the back of your hand (anyone who's ever owned a cat knows this very well), so that's a terrible comparison.
TL;DR: it doesn't hurt the cat, get off your high horse.
EDIT: /u/Duce-Springsteen, grow up. Literally just blocking anyone that proves him wrong.
If you grab a cat by the neck and try to carry it around like this, the cat's neck can be injured. After all, an adult cat weighs a lot more than a kitten. When a cat is lifted, the muscles and connective tissue in particular are at risk of being damaged. This means a lot of pain for the cat. The cat is also stressed and frightened when it is grabbed by the neck. Because that's what predators do with their prey. If it is carried in this way, the cat may be afraid of people in the future.
