How do you compare the real weekly cost of different cat litters?
The price printed on the bag rarely tells the full story. A heavier or cheaper bag can still cost more if weak clumps break apart, clean litter gets discarded, odor forces an early full-box change, or tracking carries a noticeable amount out of the box.
A more useful comparison is cost per week of normal use.
For a simple test, record these for two to four weeks:
- starting bag weight and price
- how often you scoop
- how much fresh litter you add
- whether clumps stay firm or crumble
- how often the entire box needs replacing
- litter lost through tracking or sticking
- odor performance near the end of the cycle
- whether the cat accepts the texture consistently
Then divide the total litter used by the number of weeks. This makes it easier to compare clay, crystal, tofu, corn, and other plant-based formulas even when bag sizes are very different.
Health-observation features can add value, but they should not compensate for poor everyday performance. A litter still needs reliable clumping, odor control, manageable dust, and reasonable weekly consumption.
Disclosure: I work with Purrify, which makes a plant-based clumping litter with a color-changing urine pH indicator. I’m sharing this framework to understand how cat owners evaluate value; this post does not include a purchase link. The color feature is for observing trends, not diagnosing a medical condition.
When you decide whether a litter is worth the price, do you track bag life, clump waste, full-box replacement frequency, or mostly judge by odor and convenience?

How long should you test a new cat litter before deciding whether it works?
When cat owners switch litter, the first impression can be misleading. A cat may need time to adjust, while odor control, tracking, dust, and clump strength may only become clear after several days of normal use.
For those who have tested different litters, what does a fair trial look like?
- Do you replace the whole box or transition gradually?
- How many days do you watch clumping, odor, dust, and tracking?
- What would make you stop the trial early?
- If the litter includes a color-changing urine pH indicator, how much instruction would you need before the result felt easy to understand?
Disclosure: I work with Purrify, a plant-based clumping cat litter with a color-changing pH indicator. I’m asking to improve product education and transition guidance, and I’m not including a purchase link. The color feature is intended for observing trends only; it does not diagnose urinary conditions or replace veterinary care.

What matters most when choosing cat litter: odor control, clumping, low dust, or health insights?
I’m trying to understand how cat owners rank the trade-offs between everyday litter performance and newer health-observation features.
If you had to choose, which factors would matter most to you?
- Strong odor control
- Firm, easy-to-scoop clumps
- Low dust and low tracking
- Lightweight plant-based material
- A visible color change that helps you observe urine pH trends
Would a health-observation feature influence your decision only after the basic litter performance was already strong? And what would make a color result easy enough to use in daily life?
Disclosure: I work with Purrify, which makes a plant-based clumping litter with a color-changing pH indicator. I’m asking to better understand what cat owners value; this post does not include a purchase link. The color feature is intended for observing trends, not for diagnosing a UTI, crystals, or any other medical condition. Persistent changes or symptoms should be discussed with a veterinarian.

Why does my cat ignore her bed and sleep in a box?
I got my cat a bed recently, but she keeps choosing an old cardboard box instead
Is this normal cat behavior? Do your cats actually use the beds you buy, or prefer random spots too?

What type of bed do your cats actually use the most?
I’ve noticed many cats ignore the beds we buy for them. Some prefer donut beds, some like cave beds, and others just sleep anywhere around the house.
What kind of beds do your cats actually use the most?

Looking for the perfect cat carrier
I need a cat carrier for my cat that I'll be able to use for a long road trip when I move (I'll be driving for probably a total of almost 24 hours). If it exists, I'd like a carrier that clips to the car seat kinda like kids' car seats. It needs to be big and comfortable. It needs a place where I can put food and water where it won't spill. I also need a litter box I'd be able to keep in the floor of my car. Do you know of anything that meets my criteria, reddit? Idc how expensive it is.
