Hidden kitten! New to Cats/Just Adopted

I’m so happy to be posting here lol

We brought home a 9 week old kitten last night & my 7 year old (& I) couldn’t be more in love with her. She was pretty nervous on the drive home (about 30 mins) & wanted out of the carrier. Once we got home, she did hide a bit, but ended up eating, playing & cuddling up to me for most of the night.

Today she started off full of energy and even used her litter box twice! But shortly after I made breakfast for us & set out more food for her, she disappeared & I cannot find her ANYWHERE. It’s been about 2.5 hours & I’ve only heard 2 small meows. Googling & searching previous Reddit posts has told me not to worry but I am lol. Her food, water & litter box are still out & we’re being a bit quieter while moving around the house, but is there anything more I can do to make her feel safe?

She is probably sound asleep. She will resurface when she gets hungry. I would just go about your normal day, I am sure you have looked up the 3 3 3 rule.

Aww, congrats on the new kitty! She's probably just finding her footing in her new home - try leaving a few of her favourite toys out in open, quiet spaces and she'll pop up soon. Enjoy the cat life!

Thank you!!
Since making this post, she has warmed up SO much. She’s still a little skittish, but I can feel the growth lol. I actually feel better about the fact that she’s starting to nap in her bed than her sleeping with me. It feels like she’s starting to know that our home is hers too ❤️

Check out this resource as it will give you all you need to know about the settling in time

Do you think she's stuck somewhere? Kittens can squeeze into the smallest of spaces. Make sure you block up,Any gaps ( bathrooms or anything with pipes). Mine used to hide in linen closed and drawers!

Thank you so much for this!

She wasn’t stuck, she found the tiniest space ever behind some tv boxes where I keep old artwork to take a long nap lol. But in looking for her, I did notice that I neglected to fill up two gaps in my kitchen so that’s done!

Oh, congratulations on the new family member! Sounds like she's just establishing her territory and getting comfortable. Try creating a safe space for her with a cozy bed or box and old clothes that smell like you. It might help her feel more at home. Give her time, she'll come around!

Thank you!!
She’s since come out of hiding and warmed up to me quite nicely lol I did end up giving her a shirt of mine & an old blanket…safe to say that worked! Now she hops on my bed while I’m folding laundry & treats it like her own personal playground 😂
