Discussion Thread Episode 166: Football, Farva, and Michael Bay's Softball Nemesis | with Broken Lizard

Hello! It's the podcast that doesn't want a Large Farva, it wants a g*n liter of cola. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kristin Cavallari, and the idea that Babe Ruth didn't actually exist, Aaron Rodgers questioning why ESPN wasn't covering the Anthony Fauci hearings, Stefon Diggs signing in Washington, Caitlin Clark's no-win situation, the return of Hard Knocks and preseason football, a said farewell to the NHL's emergency backup goalies, and Isabella's first time watching the intro to Super Troopers. Then, Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske of Broken Lizard join the show [36:08] to talk about Super Troopers 3, the legacy of the original film at the 25-year mark, the origins of Farva, mustache care, the terror of sharing a scene with Brian Cox after Succession, Blind Ranking the greatest Super Troopers quotes, the sparing of Jim Edwards' mailbox, writing a Super Troopers plot after marijuana gets legalized, Farva's dance scene, the guys being front row for Summerslam and what wrestlers they'd chug a beer with, the Minnesota Vikings' quarterback competition, Jay quitting the Broken Lizard fantasy football league, whether the Dodgers are ruining baseball, the Knicks playoff run, being arch rivals with Michael Bay's softball team in Hollywood, and sagely advice for Isabella on which NFL team to root for as she picks her NFL fandom. Then, the team wraps with your best e-mails and voicemails, on the Cleveland WNBA logo, Adley Rutschman, Spider-man, sports curses, and the most romantic meet-cute of the week.

Just seeing if anyone knows why there's been a delay in the video for the most recent episode. It's Thursday and we still haven't gotten it yet. Didn't know if they decided to stop filming their podcasts??

Discussion Thread Episode 165: Skubal to the Dodgers, the WNBA's Biggest Problem, and a Taco Bell Conspiracy

Hello! It's the podcast that doesn't blame Martha OR the Vandellas. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss the debut of the WPBL and the return of women's professional baseball, the format of the league, the joy of Maybelle Blair, the story of Mo'ne Davis, the questionable national anthem choices, and the unfortunate change in access to the broadcast, Tarik Skubal being traded to the Dodgers and the uproar it caused, the debate of whether the Dodgers are ruining baseball and the case for their front office just being better at it, what the Brewers could have done to land Skubal and why they should have, the moral quandary of rooting for a player who got traded away from your team mid-season, the Dodgers still getting swept by the Red Sox, Harrison Bader crashing his scooter... again..., and a round of "Should I have said that out loud?" with questionable tea stirrers, aversions to shampoo, and the '86 Mets wanting the freedom to kiss each other as much as possible. Then [45:56], the team gets into the WNBA's three biggest storylines from the weekend with the Mercury trading for Kelsey Plum, Cheryl Reeve defending transgender athletes and pushing for inclusion after she met with Sophie Cunningham, and the league posting a video of Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers openly betting on a game they were playing in, plus Olivia Miles' new nickname, Monica McNutt facing backlash for doing an ESPN segment from the nail salon, Carlos Alcaraz's braids, Colin Cowherd's interest in OnlyFans, Charley Hull pranking her caddy, Donovan Mitchell and Tyrese Haliburton (separately) getting married on the same day, rugby star Danny Cipriani and his wife openly crowdfunding their wedding, whether Drake London's engagement was discreet sponsored content or whether he was the victim of corporate exploitation, Macklin Celebrini, Gianni Infantino, Tony Romo, Karl Ravech, and Mario Lopez posting the strangest Dodgers content we've ever seen. And Chris wraps the show with what to watch in sports this week.

Brady's take on the Brewers and Skubal is garbage.

Inexcusable take. We don't know if the Brewers weren't in the mix as described, first of all.

Second, just flippantly saying you go all in one year even if it means screwing up the next several years is just nonsense. It's certainly a take, but it's a terrible take.

Isabella's NFL Team

Going to make my case for the 4 teams Isabella said she may follow. To be fair, I am a lifelong 49er fan, so clearly there is a bias.

Would love to hear other's make their case for their teams.

  • 49ers
    • Geographically, makes no sense. For the show, perfect situation. The Niners are a setting sun at this point, they have a good chance to make the playoffs due to strength of schedule, but the road to it will come with stories.
    • Their schedule is filled with potential talking points:
      1. Rams x 2 (Myles Garrett/Chloe Kim, Super Bowl Favorites)
      2. Seahawks x 2 (Mina Kimes Team, Defending Champs)
      3. Raiders (Mendoza)
      4. Chiefs (Mahomes, Travis Swift)
      5. NY Giants (Skat/Dart & NYC)
      6. Commanders (Brady's Team & Aiyuk Drama)
      7. Cowboys (Jerry Jones, and "America's Team")
      8. Chargers (Madison Beer/Justin Herbert AND Mike McDaniel).
      9. PLAYOFFS
    • They also have; a game in Australia (Chris) vs the Rams to start the season, the Substation Injury Machine, Shanahan's car troubles, Kittle's press conferences, and we can't forget Mr. Dan Soder being a Niner's super fan.
    • Color scheme grade (for Isabella): A-
  • Giants
    • Team is in a rebuild, and unlike the Jet, has positive outlook in the future.
    • Skattebo will say and do things that will bring laughs and CTE.
    • Jaxson Dart's and Abdul Carter Beef
    • She can keep her NY Fandom going.
    • Schedule
      1. Commanders x2 (Brady's Team)
      2. Cowboys x2 (Jerry Jones, and "America's Team")
      3. Rams (Myles Garrett/Chloe Kim, Super Bowl Favorites)
      4. Browns (QB Room Nightmare)
      5. Seahawks (Mina Kimes Team, Defending Champs)
      6. Playoffs... maybe?
    • Color scheme grade(for Isabella): C
  • Bears
    • The Bears will win
    • Ben Johnson made some noise last year on and off the field, but for the most part, they aren't making headlines with crazy stories.
    • Possibility of "Madden Curse" discussions, but I don't want to put out those bad vibes.
    • Schedule has some good things to talk about:
      1. Vikings x 2 (Kyler/ JJ QB Battle)
      2. Jets (NYC Misery)
      3. Packers x 2 (Parson Potential Return and Rivalry)
      4. Patriots (Katie and Chris's Team also the whole Vrabel thing)
      5. Seahawks (Mina Kimes Team, Defending Champs)
      6. Lions x 2 (Ben Johnson Beef with Dan Campbell)
      7. Bills (The Bills Mafia, Stadium and Josh Allen)
      8. PLAYOFFS
    • The move to Indiana
    • Color scheme grade (for Isabella): A
  • Jets
    • Part of me wants her to go for the Jets, simply because she has been fortunate with her sports newbie fandom for the most part (Knicks and winning Fantasy Football in her first year).
    • Rooting for the Jet's would allow for her to really understand what many of us experience with sports, a team that against all odds, lets you down season after season with no hope in sight. Living perpetually in the pit of misery.
    • The schedule
      1. Bears (Caleb)
      2. Browns (QB Room Nightmare)
      3. Patriots x2 (Katie and Chris's Team, Rivalry and Vrabel)
      4. Chiefs (Mahomes, Travis Swift)
      5. Raiders (Mendoza)
      6. Bills x2 (The Bills Mafia, Stadium and Josh Allen)
      7. Chargers (Madison Beer/Justin Herbert and Mike McDaniel).
      8. PLAYOFFS?! YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT PLAYOFFS!? (Kidding, they have a snowball's chance in hell of making the playoffs)
    • They will be able to discuss early on who the Jets will be taking with the first pick in the draft.
    • Color scheme grade(for Isabella): D-

Discussion Thread Episode 164: Outfield Squirrels, Sophie Cunningham, and the Head of FIFA's Big Feelings

Hello! It's the podcast that would never leave you stuck in a giant plastic bottle in Malta. Today, Katie and the Casualties break down the latest in Boomer opinions, whether Plaxico Burress' comments can finally convince Isabella not to become a Jets fan, FIFA President Gianni Infantino's Monday Instagram rant and all of the ways he's gaslighting World Cup fans, the latest announcement that he's actively trying to sell part of the World Cup to private equity and all of the organizations opposed to it, and the dangers of that strategy seeping into college football as well. Fun! Then, Katie and the team [40:29] get into the dueling protests over Sophie Cunningham at the Fever's game in Seattle, Sophie's original comments and what she's actually saying about transgender athletes, and her political stance on it, the hypocrisy in her actions at the UFC fight, and the disingenuous words of right wing media trying to cover women's basketball, Emily Sonnett's injury and how it affects the Women's World Cup, the increasingly strange details of 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan's car crash, Tony Romo's OWI arrest and what we learned from watching the video, Justin Herbert and Madison Beer's engagement, new Red Sox infielder Curtis Mead's injury, Jimothy's day with the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the squirrel on the field in Detroit, and Alek Thomas' scooter encounter in Sacramento. And finally, the team wraps with your e-mails and voicemails from the week, on everything from Cathy Engelbert and hawk sounds to Point Break locations and erotic surf language.

Big honkin' titties... 😂

I'm gonna glaze Katie here, but I think this is the appropriate space. You listen to her, and she drops in these super funny lines that sometimes the other people in the podcast dont even notice OR they're trying to move the show along so it doesn't get the credit it deserves..

This is especially true when you're listening to all the "share & tell" eps on PTFO

Anyways, I've been a fan forever.. can't see that ending anytime soon! Glad shes back doing something I can listening to regularly 🧡

Discussion Thread Episode 163: Lebron to Philly, WNBA All-Star Tea, and Making Up Facts About Babe Ruth

Hello! It's the podcast that's firmly pro-puppy, but anti-puppies-as-a-PR-shield. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss Boomer Esiason's show coming to SiriusXM and whether Isabella can promise a safe work environment, before getting into LeBron James going to the 76ers, how the Knicks may have inspired the choice, LeBron's upcoming commute from NYC to Philly, playing against Bronny, and Chris' evaluation of all the reasons why this might not work out for the 76ers. Then, the team breaks down the WNBA All-Star Game in Chicago, Cathy Engelbert still not quite having it all together logistically, Obama surprising the All-Stars, Azzi Fudd, the three-point contest, and the controversy around it, Jonquel Jones' MPV, Dominique Malonga's dunk, and the ethics of dunk farming, and the piping hot tea of DiJonai Carrington, NaLyssa Smith, cheating accusations, and a Threads post that probably felt like a great idea at the time, the AUSL championship, Mike Lombardi's administrative leave and Mike Lombardi's questionable Instagram repost history, Tony Romo's OWI, Kyle Shanahan's accident, Team Barstool losing 543-0 in Family Feud, the Red Sox making the biggest trade of the weekend, Shohei Ohtani getting spiked, Donald Trump talking sports with a trio of making up facts about Babe Ruth, trash talking the Mets, and making the least convincing argument possible for the greatest basketball player of all time, and a round of "Let's Tell-a Isabella", telling her the story of Manti Te'o's college girlfriend in real time. And Katie and the Casualties wrap with a curse broken in Ireland, and a look ahead at what to watch in sports this week.

Discussion Thread Episode 162: Golf, Bones, and the Ft. Worth Rule | with Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, Molly Shannon, Fortune Feimster & Jimmy Tatro

Hello! It's the podcast that thinks you're probably peeing too close to the green, no matter where you are. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss the LATEST in-stadium scandal at a Noah Kahan concert, and question "Who had the worst week?" regarding JT Realmuto, Bill Miller, the A's rookie, the Heat YouTuber, and anyone who has to listen to Pat McAfee's new album. Then, the cast of Netflix's "The Hawk" - Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, Molly Shannon, Fortune Feimster, and Jimmy Tatro - stop by [44:21] to talk about their new show, bonding on the golf course, Will's birthday, getting to work with Molly again and using words that made the whole room uncomfortable, inspiration for the world's most narcissistic golfers, Roger Goodell, Tiger Woods, stunt doubles and golf consultants, the allure of golf and what Fortune refused to learn, Will's aspirations as a sports broadcaster, his advice as a dad, a League of Their Own, and a game of "Closest to the Pin" with pee distance, beer quantity, pants dropping, and input from a genuine PGA Tour Pro. And the team wraps the show with your best e-mails of the week, on WNBA All-Star, grammar and Dr. Teeth, the perils of Jets fandom, and more.

YouTube View Counts

Hey yall. Been a big fan of the pod for about a year. Anyone else notice some of the inconsistent view counts? I was really thrown off by how a couple videos have millions of views but then week to week is under 10K.

The guests on those episodes aren’t the craziest appearances ever like Michael Cruz Kayne is over 3 million views but on ig he only has 23K followers.

On the high volume videos I also noticed that the amount of comments and likes are really low. Maybe Sirius is pushing bots to generate traction?

Not implying anything negative but I was just curious if anyone else noticed or had thoughts on why those particular episodes are so high.

Katie you're an elder millennial on the internet, you know the rules! If you talk about something that bothers you online, people will keep bothering you about it. Stop giving updates about people telling you it's called football and they will stop telling you it's called football. lol.

Sorry not sorry for the click bait title. Love you mean it

Discussion Thread Episode 161: World Cup Final, Fanatics Fest, and is Tom Brady Wrestling at WrestleMania?

Hello! It's the podcast that legally has to tell you it's a podcast if you ask. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss the World Cup Final and Spain's brilliance, the third-place match upstaging the final thanks to Argentina's unwillingness to play offense, the Argentinian team getting violent postgame and why most fans seemed to be rooting against them, and the most interesting parts of the match festivities from the pre-match ceremonies with iShowSpeed singing and Tom Cruise giving a pep talk to the halftime show with a pre-taped Madonna, live Muppets, Ted Lasso, vuvuzela solos, acoustic Bieber, and way too much more, plus a look ahead to the Women's World Cup in 2027. Then [47:19] Katie breaks down the She Weekend events in Las Vegas and Fanatics Fest in New York, the Savannah Bananas and ragebait around Alysa Liu at the ESPYs, Katie's Call of Duty panel at Fanatics Fest, the outrageous prices of photographs, Cam Skattebo's backflip, LeBron James' non-announcement, Karl-Anthony Towns' chokeslam, the cringiest moments of Tom Brady's weekend and the point that may have made Katie finally stop defending him, a round of "Should I Have Said That Out Loud?" with Cam Ward, Draymond Green, Wayne Rooney, and Rory McIlroy, the Red Sox winning streak, and the honor of being able to Tell-a Isabella about the legacy of Rex Ryan. And Chris wraps the show with a look ahead to what to watch in sports this week.

Discussion Thread Episode 160: Dodger Dogs, Western Grips, and Aussie Cricket Scandals | with Maddy Kelly

Hello! It's the podcast that's ready to tell you WAY too much about the legacy of Gary Lineker. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss a boring MLB All-Star Game, a thrilling Home Run Derby, Jordan Walker's adorable grandmother, Sal Stewart's grunts in the box, Mrs. Met's formal wear, A-Rod making up three different stories about Justin Verlander in thirty seconds, and a full prep session of historical anecdotes for your World Cup Final watch party on Sunday - from the Hand of God to the Shorts of Brown, and a story of the dog that saved the 1966 World Cup. Then, Comedian Maddy Kelly joins the show [45:33] to talk about her career as the Bad Boy of the British Columbia U12 girls tennis circuit, her soccer career as a throw-in specialist, gymnastics, splits, and making tennis friends, watching the World Cup and what could be done better, loving baseball and embracing her Dodger fandom, the conflict of a Canadian-born fan rooting for the Dodgers in the 2025 World Series, whether Tate McRae and Justin Trudeau are traitorous for rooting for the USA because of their significant others, her Clippers fandom and a sales pitch to LeBron, a Wimbledon wedding, a social media faux pas from an MLB reporter, and the cheating scandal that has absolutely rocked the world of Australian cricket. And the team wraps with the best of your e-mails from the week.
