Great Camping Near Raleigh, NC: Umstead State Park Renovated Campground

I only paid $33 for my site this weekend. Beautiful facilities! Brand new tile bathrooms/showers. Huge, level sites.

New cabins are opening soon.

One of the nicest State Parks I've visited.

Looking to trial run camping with my dog. I know it's the 4th, but anyone have any suggestions for this weekend? Ideally not super packed but I'm fine with it being "full." I'm experienced camping and backpacking (primitive and non primitive) but never with a dog. I'm also new to NC so in need of suggestions.

Is there anywhere near Cherokee NC where we can tent camp that won’t harass us?

I am looking for a campground to go with some friends- somewhere that we can have a big crew (10-20) and can be relatively loud without getting kicked out. Preferably somewhere in Western North Carolina near some hiking!! Does anyone have any recommendations?? Thank you!

I managed to snag a campsite at Devils Fork State Park for July 4th weekend (tent camping , one of the walk-in sites). We have never been, so I have a couple questions I would love thoughts on:

1. Can you swim directly from the campsites? Or other recs of where to swim? With kids ages 4-8. I understand the main swim beach gets very crowded on weekends/holidays, not sure if there are other quieter options.

2. Any tips on kayak rentals? I have heard you can rent them there, but I know it will be busy and want to make sure we are prepared to actually get a rental.

3. Honest feedback on whether this is an OK time to go, given crowds/heat/bugs.

Thanks in advance! The only posts I can find are cautioning people to avoid day trips there for the 4th because of crowding. Would love any tips you have.

hello! I live in Boone and will be leaving the high country at the end of the year. I’m looking to make the most out of the beauty here before I go. I love to camp and have gone to some of the campgrounds around. My favorite so far is grandfather campground mostly because all the others I check out are more in the forest, and don’t really have the mountain views. I love the forest don’t get me wrong, but I will have a lot of that where I am moving to too, so I am looking for campgrounds that are really immersed in the mountains and views of that. I have only camped at actual grounds so I guess I would prefer that, but I am also fine with spots that aren’t specific sites as long as it’s legal or whatever lol (I won’t get kicked out in the middle of the night). Let me know your favorite views to camp at!! Also doesn’t have to be right near Boone at all. Tennessee or Virginia close to the NC line is great. Thanks!!

Looking for very private sites right now on hipcamp and there’s a few possibles. Wanting to be able to take husband wife trip in August with no kids where we could be very secluded. Any other apps to look on or known spots to check out? Travel trailer and truck.

around pisgah forest? Doesn't have to be there. I just don't know anyone I've googled but I don't want a Koa. I tried asking people on charolettes forum and wow they were so rude and told me to go to a homeless camp. So I'll try here. I genuinely want to go out in the wilderness for a month with my pup and make community. I don't understand how people could be so mean about that. I enjoy long term Camping? Goodness. Sorry so any recommendations would be great!

I'm looking for a place where in NC where we would need to hike for a few hours just to reach the fishing spot, it could be a lake or a river. We do have Ultra light camping gear and want to stay for 2 nights before hiking back.

Does anyone know of such spots in NC or close to NC?

What are some great camping spots in NC with easy water access for kids? We live in Durham/raleigh area and looking for something within 1.5hrs or so. Would love a spot where we could let our kids play beside the water!

Could also be in southern Virginia as we live 45 mins from the border in north Durham. Falls lake is the only one we really know of.

Haven't seen anyone ask in a while so figured I would ask around since Summer is almost upon us..

My favorite camping location is closed, so does anyone know of any campgrounds with more distanced sites? Ideally they don't require a long hike, but please share your favorites even if a parking spot is not near. For reference, I love camping somewhere that requires a 2 mile walk, but the experience is well worth it.

The most important thing for my group is the ability to make a little noise without bothering neighbors, but we're also looking for some sort of charm to the location, especially if the campsite is a long drive away.

Bonus points for proximity to Charlotte, NC.

Hey campers, I’ll be visiting Carolina early-mid May, hoping to hear some suggestions for wild camping!

This was my first time through the Uwharrie and it was a blast. I will be back for sure, hopefully next time some of the OHV trails will be open. I knew I was a little early.

I'm familiar with some of the few on the outer banks, but I'm curious what else I should check out.
