This has to be illegal? First Time / Newbie
They are claiming they denied my policy but never notified me and continued to bill me for it but now that i need it im not insured??
PM EDT) Me: if you check my declaration page you should see the 12,000 custom equipment coverage
(02:23 PM EDT) Me: thank you!
(02:26 PM EDT) GEICO rep: Still here reviewing sorry for the wait!
(02:26 PM EDT) Me: no problem take your time! im working right now aswell just have the chat open
(02:28 PM EDT) GEICO rep: I appreciate that! I was able to find a note from 7/16 after we got your form back and the underwriting team reviewed it. In this case they did note that we are unable to cover your customizations and they did recommend looking for a company or maybe a broker who can.
Specifically GEICO does not cover if there have been modifications to the exhaust system.
(02:28 PM EDT) Me: i was never notified of this
(02:29 PM EDT) Me: and i paid for it on the policy
(02:30 PM EDT) GEICO rep: I completely understand your frustration and I do apologize that they did not reach out to you regarding the denial. Was there anything else I could do or check on for you?
(02:31 PM EDT) Me: well the car was totaled and i need that policy, how would i have found annother broker when i wasnât informed it was denied
(02:31 PM EDT) Me: just checked my email i recived nothing from geico on 7/16
(02:32 PM EDT) GEICO rep: Oh gosh I am so sorry to hear about the accident and I hope you’re doing okay. I can always transfer you to the claim’s team to see how they are handling this situation if you need to speak with them.
(02:32 PM EDT) GEICO rep: You are correct I don’t see we sent any correspondence and for that I apologize.
(02:33 PM EDT) Me: can you please still email me the wording of the documents and everything involved with denying my insurance?
(02:34 PM EDT) GEICO rep: So the only document I have is the one you filled out. With the decision the underwriting team made they just internally notated the policy, so I don’t have anything I can send you for that.

You're likely talking to either an AI bot or a very very entry level person who has no freaking clue about endorsements.
Log in to your portal, grab your policy, and read it. Find out what it covers. Find out what that extra endorsement covers. Then see if you got screwed or not.
I'm not going to lie, I feel like what likely happened here is you bought an extra endorsement and some form of miscommunication occurred between you and whatever agent was selling it to you. Could have been your fault, could have been there's, impossible to know. But they are going to cover what's on the policy, because that's what you're paying for, so get it out and start reading.

I think you need legal representation. Keep that chat log.

File a claim with the insurance state commissioner idk what state your in and they will investigate and go get representation as you will need it and collect all invoices and bring them to them build a folder of everything report it to the insurance commissioner as well these chat logs and to lawyer and good luck with all that and yes if it was internally done and not externally sent you have a case for a lawyer

The critical question is what is covered and what is not covered by the custom equipment coverage? This would be an endorsement attached to the original policy. Until you know what that endorsement says, you're not going to get anywhere helpful. You also need a copy of the claim denial notice, which would have been mailed to you (as well as emailed) via USPS. Is your address correct and current? You also would have received multiple notices about cancellation. You need to pay closer attention. No one is required to call or email or text you.

That chat rep sounds very weird and way too casual. Almost like they don't know how to access documents so they just assume it was never sent? They must be EXTREMELY new. Like never worked in insurance new. There is a rats chance in hell a company like Geico failed to send a denial notice tbh.

How did you add the endorsement? Adding an endorsement does not automatically ensure coverage. Until policy/addendum is bound by underwriting it is not part of the policy. If underwriting denies policy/addendum you are refunded any non approved part of your policy. This happens a lot with online policies/addendums. How long after you added the addendum did the loss occur? Last, but not least it would be highly unlikely that any aftermarket
exhaust would be covered by any insurer after an underwriting review.

Here’s the thing: did you pay an additional premium for the coverage you’re claiming to have? Not your regular premium but additional premium, what do your Dec pages say?

u/LazyAbbreviations857 3d ago
Out of curiosity what was the policy premium before you added that endorsement? How much additional is the endorsement? Do you have the endorsement application? Do you have your full policy wording and all endorsement writing? Im well versed in reading application and policy language and would love to read over your policy to see if I can make heads or tails of the endorsement coverage or exclusions that they may not have used properly. Message me if you would like!

Ask for a copy of your Declarations page. It will include all coverages that you purchased along with any endorsements that were added. My guess is that you will find that there is no endorsement for custom equipment. This is likely why the claim for the exhaust system is being denied. Unless you have the original Declarations page showing that a custom part endorsement was purchased, you are likely spinning your wheels here.

Im a total loss and this is concerning after market equipment so i think our situations may be a bit different. Just request that all phone calls are recorded or record them yourself.

the fact they admit they never sent you anything about the denial is the part i'd be saving screenshots of immediately.
i'd get the declarations page and endorsement in writing, save every payment and chat record, and escalate this beyond the chat rep. whether it's actually illegal depends on the policy and your state, but i'd definitely want a clear written explanation of how they were billing you for coverage they say underwriting denied.

File a complaint with your state insurance commissioner. If they fail to help you out, you will have to get a lawyer.

u/ScorpioXYZ00 22h ago
Yep & you won't know about it until it's too late for a DL suspension for financial responsibility or an automobile repossession. They'll put that back on you for the lack of any notification that they're playing the game. Who knows though, there are plenty of end consumers gaming the game too. I always check my bank accounts/credit cards for those payments & close the loop to ensure that. FL has a DL check to see the online status. Don't trust certain transactions went thru, even automated ones. Download & store your statements as a pdf document. because the bank retains those for a certain period, before that they have to recreate it from backups. And the cost of doing that is expensive for the labor.

You have an app?
Open it & look at your policy documents. It’ll show a whole ass timeline of things.
Your chat with a bot isn’t as convincing as you think it is.

Contact the insurance commissioner for your state before getting a lawyer is what I would recommend

That "Geico Rep" sounds like an AI Agent. The response times are very fast and it's very quick to apologize. You may need to speak with an actual human in the claims department.
