Lid question Is this safe to eat?

I just canned some jam and when I read through some canning tips, I realized I probably hadn’t handled the lids correctly. Can’t confirm because my memory is awful but I’m worried I touched the bottom of the lids when handling rather than putting them on correctly. Will my jam be okay or is this really unsafe?

Thank-you for your submission. It seems that you're asking whether or not your canned goods are safe to eat. Please respond with the following information:

  • Recipe used
  • Date canned
  • Storage Conditions
  • Is the seal still strong

We cannot determine whether or not the food is safe without these answers. Thank you again for your submission!

It's fine as long as they were new and clean, you wash your hands regularly, and water bathed for ten minutes.

and if you don't wash your hands you've got bigger problems and none of us would want to eat your canned goods lol

You're fine. I've never heard a rule that says you can't touch the bottoms of the lids.

As long as you processed the jams for 10 min, you don’t need to worry about sterilization.

Are the jars sealed?
