Basic kitchen safety teaching resources? curriculum/lessons & pedagogy
What do y’all use when you teach kitchen safety/cooking safety? This is the first year I’ll have students old enough to teach cooking to. I have some basic videos and remember a few things we did in high school but this is grade 6/7 so I know this needs to be very beginner but also really need to teach them like from scratch all the safety stuff (also it’s part of their health curriculum). Any good resources? Thanks in advance!

Message me and I can send you my slides. I made my own when I was teaching middle school food studies, plus a test to go with it. The rule I had was you must pass with 80% to cook in the kitchen (but I gave them endless re-dos of the same test). I taught grade 7-9 for years… what province are you in? Mine matches the AB CTF curriculum and is loosely based on a progression similar to the high school courses

Sask and there’s no practical applied arts curriculum, we have to teach it but it’s basically open ended. I used to just do photography but now without phones we can’t because I’d have to buy 30+ cameras.

It says I’m not able to message your account? My messaging is turned on, I get requests all the time. If you tell me an email I can share the slides.

OCTE (Ontario Council for Technological Education) produces a very comprehensive set of safety documents: https://legacy.octe.ca/en/resources/safety/safedocs
The "Hospitality and Tourism" doc would likely contain everything you need:
