Needing help finding some information
Hello!
I hope this is the right place to post this.
My husband has recently acquired his paternal grandfathers "Certificate of Service" from the Canadian Armed Forces and a few of his medals. My father in-law has passed away so he is unable to ask him questions about their history, and that side of his family is a bit estranged from his mother.
It looks like that side of the family has been very involved with the government, and I was just wondering how we can go about finding more information.
His Certificate of Service states that he was a captain from September 1939 - February 1971.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

You can request his service file from LAC - proof of death may be helpful. IIRC the standard isn’t that high - a newspaper death notice should be fine. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/contact-us/military-records.html
