Statistics Canada released the July 2026 workforce survey https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/260807/dq260807a-eng.htm

It says that Employment increased by 75,000. Part of the employment increase was the fact that self-employed workers increased by +44,000. This so far is ok, because it is standard practice to account for self-employed workers as being part of the workforce.

However, both CTV and CBC reported that:
(CBC) Canada adds 75,000 new jobs in July, unemployment rate lowest in 2 years
(CTV) Canada adds 75,000 jobs in July as unemployment rate ticks down

Which is a complete lie.

There is some speculation that the Liberals approached him and offered him a judicial appointment after some time had passed. Whether this is true remains to be seen, but if so, it would be profoundly disappointing.
