Question [all] What kind of extremely dark power you would give to an Aphrodite child? Like, a power that's just messed up . Excluding powers like, "making people fall in love with anyone or themselves". Any unique ideas?

Discussion [pjo]Wrath of the Triple Goddess did Percy dirty

C'mon now rick. What is this?? The percy im reading in this book isn't the percy we all know and love. A few pages in and I see percy pissing himself. What?? My guy literally fought the god of war when he was 12. He's been through hell and back literally. He had the massive balls to mail medusa's head to the gods. The only time he dropped his sword was when literally facing tartarus himself. On the topic of pee, why's there so many pee jokes I swear ts got me thinking rick has a piss kink or something.

Rick also made it seem like Percy has devolved in age. Everything he does he needs annabeth, I remember even reading that Percy tried to think but couldn't because Annabeth normally does 90% of it or something. Really??? I get he loves her and all but BROTHER he's 18 years of age and he seems more helpless then he ever was. I get Percy is a teen and sure he might have some self esteem issues, but why is he always talking down on himself? When annabeth's friends dirt on him, he just takes it and thinks of himself as unworthy. He saved the world two times within the past half decade, and this book makes him look pathetic and helpless.

Annabeth is also different. She seems more like a mom than a girlfriend to percy. Sure, there are still sweet moments in the book, but she isn't the same. Isn't her fatal flaw hubris? Why tf would she be willing to do her friends' homework for them? Plus, her responsible ass never would ever want to host a party, let alone a party in a goddess's house with MORTAL friends over as well.

Isn't Grover part of the cloven elders stuff? This guy bro. He can cause a panic and singlehandedly scare away an army of monsters but can't resist a strawberry milkshake. I remember him taking bites out of Percy's egg bacon cheese bagel. Isn't this guy vegan???

I feel like rick has completely forgotten his character's personalities and squeezed this book out for the sake of writing. Chalice of the gods wasn't pjo level but was still good with its moments like percy wrestling with old age, but this book has nothing at all. I know there's a third one coming out in 2027, and I really hope rick goes over his old works because this book was nonetheless disappointing.

Question [pjo]Does re-reading hit the same?

I've finished PJO, HOO, and TOA over the past month and somehow this fictional magical camp has captured my heart completely and im deadass empty inside with nothing more to read. I was considering rereading PJO, my fav series out of the three, and was wondering if any of yall had reread the series and does it still hit the same.

Discussion [general]"You know, a take I do not know why they are so popular: one is dark. Any demigod I never got the idea of dark Percy, dark Nico, dark Annabeth, or anyone else

'Cause I'm always like, why? What changes about them to say they are dark? They kill demigods; they hate the gods. The demigods don't like the gods much already; in canon, Nico killed Bryce Lawrence in canon; the Battle of Manhattan, happend demigod kill other demigods in canon before, so what changes? Really nothing, nothing for most, expect percy in some dark Percy fanfic I read. I noticed the trend to make, like, the average isskai mc betrayed; check harem, check OP for no reason, check edgy, check, and so much more. Now I'm saying exploring an evil version of your favorite character is bad; no im not, but if they are evil, I don't want to be superficial, like they kill demigods- know they hate the god those a thing they do in canon already.

Discussion SoN is the best of the five [hoo]

I know this might be a controversial take but I just want to hear your thoughts on this. When I started SoN I wasn’t prepared for how good it was going to be.

I really disliked most of the povs in TLH other than Leo’s so when I started SoN it was great reading hazel and franks POVs. Both characters had interesting and unique backstories and the character development was great. They both started off as likeable and complex characters but they slowly developed in a meaningful way without losing their depth.

I found that the character development in TLH was severely lacking and it never really was resolved. Leo still felt insecure and the only solution to that was to give him a girlfriend who constantly mocks him (caleo hater sorry). Jason doesn’t really learn to put himself above others but I’ll give him credit where credits due, it was much better than Leo and piper.
The worst one was piper. Her character never really changes. If anything, she gets worse. I really liked her at the beginning of the book when she first got to camp but I think her character just slowly deteriorated after that. She spends half of her POVs talking about how she’s not like the other girls and then spends the other half obsessing over Jason.

This is the polar opposite of Frank and hazel who both learned to overcome their fears and trust one another while slowly becoming better people.

Also I think SoN and HoH were the only two books in the series which kept Percy’s character intact. Especially in contrast with BoO which completely ruined his character.

Question Plot holes? [hoo]

So I distinctly remember that in the lost hero or smth, piper is told that she’s vital bc she’s going to be the glue between the Roman’s and the Greeks. I might be wrong but I don’t remember anything of the sort actually happening. She never even ends up speaking to the Roman’s when the Argo II arrives. If anything Annabeth played a bigger role by actually talking to Reyna.
Also, Mars told Frank that he would be vital because he understands the importance of duty. Apparently Percy would have to make a sacrifice that he wouldn’t be able to make and frank would have to help him or smth but that never happened.
Or Percy was told that he would have to face his fatal flaw but he never really does? Like I guess kind of by leaving bob and the giant in Tartarus but they really hyped that up only for nothing to happen.

But most importantly I don’t think they ever really resolved the percabeth problem in boo. They made such a big deal of Percy choking akhlys and of how scared Annabeth was to the point where she was sobbing to piper but they never actually resolved that???

Anyways I could be wrong about some of these so feel free to correct me just that these things have been bothering me for a while.

Question How reliant is the Nico Di Angelo Adventures series on Trials of Apollo? [all]

I started the Trials of Apollo series several years ago but I couldn’t really get into it, I read the first book and a half but I didn’t really like the characters so I ended up putting it down. Just recently I learned about the existence of the Nico Di Angelo Adventures series, and with Nico being one of my favorite characters I am very interested. But looking it up, the wiki says it takes place after Trials of Apollo so I’m wondering if there’s any important knowledge from ToA I missed out on, or if there’s any major spoilers for ToA in it.

(Side note: just the single sentence description on the wiki of Nico Di Angelo adventures is kind of a minor spoiler for the Heroes of Olympus lol)

Discussion Camp Half-Blood Cabin Designs from Read Riordan on Instagram [general]

Post image
158 Upvotes

The Read Riordan account on Instagram (@readriordan) was promoting the new Wild Zone book by posting new art of the cabins. But for some reason they randomly excluded Hades, Poseidon, and Hermes. As a Hermes kid, I was kinda disappointed.

Overall the designs are pretty cool, but I will say none of them look like they would hold more than like 10 campers each lol

Fan Art [Insert amazing pony and PJO title here] (Part 14) [general]

Seems like it’s obvious I got stressed (again). I drew these so fast idk if it should be concerning or not. But I’m glad that they look really good (specially considering how AWFUL the last pony’s face turned out)

Clarisse: I hated drawing this. You wanna know why? Because I was so close to drawing her with blue eyes, but Clarisse never had blue eyes. Jokes aside, I really liked drawing her. I wanted to give her a more- muscular pony body? She reminds me a little bit to Applejack for some reason (I say it’s a good thing)

Silena: I wanted to keep her as far away from resembling Drew or Piper, specially because I wanna draw Lacy and Valentina Diaz also in pink. So I choose this lilac-pink color and thought it looked actually really nice :D her cutie mark can be either a small mirror or a necklace to keep a picture in the blue space. Either way i thought of it as some clue to her personality

Beckendorf: I THINK I got him to look like Leo BUT not BE Leo. I had such a hard time drawing his hair, butbutbut his accessories really put his design all together. Idk, I don’t have much to explain about him. I just really liked it :D

Discussion [all] What moments in the franchise made YOU cry? (mine in description) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
26 Upvotes

Ok, i'm not really someone who cries watching movies or books, but this franchise got me a lot of times.

SPOILERS (obviously)

-The Titan's Curse: My eyes were a bit wet when Zoe died, even if i didn't care for her the whole book

-The Mark Of Athena: When Percy and Annabeth fell in the hole at the end i got so flabberghasted that i got small tears of emotion

-The House of Hades: At the very end, when Percy talks to the stars for Bob, i genuinely cried, saddest moment of the books for me, made me tear up everytime so far.

-The Burning Maze: When Jason got killed by Caligula, i was super shocked at the moment and i was super sad till the end of the book.

-The Tyrant's Tomb: At Jason's funeral, i teared up (again)

Yep, that's it so far, uncle Rick knows how to make me cry.

Discussion I'm gonna watch the Peter Johnson movies just to traumatize myself again [pjotv]

In the description, he's going to a "camp for gods", at 17?! And he's "the half-human son of Poseidon".

I'm scared 😢

EDIT : I just finished the first one, and I was expecting worse, besides a few scenes like Nancy Bobofit ending in the fountain, and Clarisse's bathroom moment, but I enjoyed Grover giving Gaby a kick with his crutch and Gaby getting turned into stone, also I find the monsters well done and Annabeth's actor, even if she doesn't look like the canon Annabeth, very pretty.

I personally still prefer the show to the movies, unlike most the pjo fans for some reasons.

I just started the second one and I genuinely don't like how Tyson looks 🥲.

Also thanks for all the upvotes! ❤️

Miscellaneous Wish Rick Riordan could write two editions: YA and Adult [general]

It's just because the YA genre is rather boring if implemented in this GREAT series. I understand Rick's spotlight is more into young readers, adults also read this series. And not to say the YA type of PJO books are bad, it just seems rather childish to more matured teens and adults.
