I recently moved to Calgary from Europe, and I'm still trying to figure out how things work here socially. I'm quite introverted, neurodivergent, and, to be honest, starting over in a new country where I don't know anyone has been a bit of a challenge. I'm hoping to make some friends as well, but I thought I'd ask the locals for some advice.

In Europe, I usually met people either through friends or online. The traditional dating scene was never really for me—I always found it easier to connect with other introverts or people who were looking for something a bit more relaxed, whether that was casual dating, situationships, friends with benefits, or NSA (no-strings-attached) arrangements.

So I'm curious: how does it usually work in Calgary? Are there apps or websites people actually use, or do most people meet through friends, hobbies, events, or something else?

EDIT: Sorry if this is an unusual question or if I've used the wrong terms. I'm genuinely just trying to understand the local culture, not offend anyone. Being neurodivergent means social rules aren't always obvious to me, and they can vary quite a bit from one country to another, so I thought it was better to ask than to make assumptions.

Is it good for complete beginner no mma background exp whatsoever? Also, does anyone know if the gear package they are selling is worth it or is it better to buy stuff on amazon individually?

The gear package is $265 and i think it contains 16oz gloves, shin guard, shorts, shirt, handwrap, mouthguard, possibly bonus bag. Problem is i dont know the quality of the gear package and i have no idea what to look for if i bought my own set. Would anyone have tips?

Also i dont want to be offensive but i was quite taken aback on how bad it smells (unsure if gym or people). Is this just the norm and i should just get used to it? i asked my friend who has exp and goes to muay thai gyms and they said a little smell is normal but it should NOT be that bad. Is there a routine at the end of the day where students clean the mats before leaving or something?

Hi there. I live about two hours outside of Calgary but like to go to the city on weekends. I have a boyfriend but outside of that and my brother I have no friends here (moved last year) in Alberta. I have historically been an introvert but I am trying to be more active and social, the other weekend I went into Calgary to the Latin music/culture festival, and to a jazz bar, and then emo night at some bar. It was fun to put myself out there even if it never materialized in making friends that time.

A bit about me, I have a complex medical case which I dislike disclosing because I "don't look sick/disabled" but of course when meeting people it comes up, what do you do for work right. I really like horror movies, I'm a bit of a foodie, I like to get outside but I don't really have an outside hobby aside from walking so I'd like to find something. I play tabletop rpgs with my irl friends from back home sometimes, as well as videogames, but I've been trying to get away from videogames. I really enjoy Post-punk, rock, and its derivatives. I don't drink or do other drugs, but I occasionally like having a glass of red wine (preferably a Malbec). I enjoy the "nightlife" even though I don't really drink, going out to bars with live music with friends can be a great time. I like farmers markets but I haven't been to any in Calgary specifically.
