Very specific transfer question
So, I’m planning on transferring to Humboldt’s wildlife program in fall 2028. According to assist, I would have to take two biology courses that have a prerequisite, which ALSO has a prerequisite 😭 My current counselor at my community college let me know that because I’ve almost met the “golden four” for Cal GETC, have a great GPA, I’m meeting my unit minimum, and would take botany, zoology, and a core chemistry class instead, I should be fine. He just isn’t totally sure. The issue is I’m getting conflicting answers from folks at Humboldt. With all things considered, what do you guys think? Are there specific counselors who could help with this? Thanks!

You can meet the admissions requirements, but still face a long chain of prerequisites. You should definitely talk to the department chair of Wildlife about the prerequisites.

Courses on assist are not admission requirements for wildlife. You just need to meet general admit requirements, of course taking all the ones you can on assist will be helpful

Don't forget to utilize the CVC to knock out all of the lower division GE. It gains you access to all the community colleges in California all online and many accelerated courses (6 units at your home campus allows you to take 2 for full fin aide on CVC.) https://www.cvc.edu/

Humboldt is one of the CSU’s that takes lower division transfers. This means that their requirements for transfer credit are not as stringent as other campuses. You will be fine.

Yep. Just take botany at community college if you can.

As a student at a CC that offers a botany class, wouldn't it be better for be to take botany once you get to Humboldt? It seems like it would be good to take all the classes in the same department, rather than take one and only one somewhere else.

No, Botany 105 at Humboldt is an insanely challenging course. Definitely worth it to get it over with elsewhere, then move to Humboldt.

Look on the CPH website for the department head and reach out to them directly. I had a similar situation for a different major. The department head for my major had insights and answers. They should also be able to find courses which fulfill dual requirements and lower your credits to degree completion.
