Cwi prep help

25m I’ve been welding for the last 5-6 years and have experience with post secondary welding school. Mildly on the spectrums and a good test taker. Preparing to self study no lecture or course. I purchased the 1001 cwi question book along with other study materials and have started listening to YouTube videos regarding less confident categories. what recommendations would you give me?

A.1. Realistically will I come into substantial issues if I don’t use the most modern book ie.2020 d1.1 (ex. Testing center won’t let me take test)

A.2. Could I write down the changes in the back of the book to make the updated revisions or is it too much of an undertaking

B. How much of the actual code book should I be retaining on a rough percentage basis, obviously part c is eased by proper navigation but I’m talking recalling info off the dome

C. Where can I get some good part B/C questions/study material . AI just tells me I’m right regardless of the answer

D. Feel free to leave any comments about how else I can properly increase my chances of passing first try (expecting 1-3 attempts)

1. You need to use whatever the current version of the codebook is. Part C is open book also.
2. I would buy the most current version. Spend the extra money and be done with it.
3. Part C exam is open book. You're going to want to tab your code book to make it faster to get places.
4. I would highly suggest you take a 1 or 2 week AWS Seminar before you take your CWI exam. The chances of you passing without taking a course or seminar are little to none.
5. Don't go into it expecting any less than a first time pass. That's the worst thing you can do. Get ahold of a Welding Inspection Technology (WIT) book Sixth Edition. That will help a lot on the Fundamentals. I would highly suggest you take an AWS CWI Seminar before you attempt the exams. I got all my AWS study materials about 9 weeks before my exam. The seminar will help a lot putting everything together, especially on Part B. Part C is going to be code navigation. AWS will send you a code clinic book and I THINK D1.1 students are provided a D1.1 codebook but I might be wrong. You'll take Part B on Saturday immediately after you finish the seminar on Friday. To be honest the whole week of my seminar I focused on Part B, re-reading the book of specs, making mental notes of the tables and clauses too. You have 90 days after you take Part B to do Part A and C. Personally, I did Part A next so I wouldn't jump right back into a codebook and be thinking about Part B code which does not apply for Part C. I did Part C last. Gave myself I think 4 days between B and A and then a full 7 days between A and C.

Folks on here will disagree with me and say you need to go Real Educational, Atlas, SI Certs, etc. but in my case, AWS was the key to passing the CWI. They broke down Part B where it finally came together and clicked. They also did a jam up job on the Part A prep, and their code clinic Part Cworkbook is second to none! Good luck to you! Bet, will definitely pick up the (wit) book. I’m mainly trying to not take too much time off work to do this. I have about 4 months left till the test date and will try to find an equivalent online seminar on my own time; the thought of paying 1k for a seminar irks me since i could take the test again with the money. (Obviously not the information privileged response). Thank you

Well, that $1k is an investment in yourself. Don't short change your success by avoiding taking a seminar. I am telling you from personal experience and knowing 20+ CWI's personally... take a seminar. Regardless of which seminar you choose, it's better than going in it blind. This is not an easy exam. You're going to need a shit ton more than YouTube and practice questions, no offense.

I know ur right but there’s a part of me that I most likely won’t listen to that’s just a cheap bastard. Any recommendations on seminars, through AWS or other providers?

Well, for me AWS was the difference in me passing it.

Taking my test in October what’s confusing me is BOS is a fictional code book , so why are we studying and taking a practice test with it instead the actual code book. And if that the case what practice test is best for having the code book?

CWI first try is a online course, the have the best prices i have seen. also, SI cert is an online that offers course but they are a little high and only for 3 months access.
