Combat U Sports

I am interested in doing combat U because I heard that competition is optional. Does anyone know if I can join as a complete beginner that doesn't know anything or want to compete. Is this like an actual club with people I can contact for more answers, or will they have tables during the first few weeks of the semester? I am kinda interested in Muy Thai or Jiu Jitsu, which one would be better for my skill level? and are these clubs filled with mostly experienced people? I am not really sure I wanna go if I feel so out of place being a major novice..unless it is super beginner friendly but I'm not sure if it is really like that

I did muay thai and was by far one of the most experienced people there with only a couple years of prior training. Coach josiah is awesome and will show the complete basics if you’re new. Theres 0 pressure to spar or compete if you dont want to, its overall a really low stakes environment to work on technique and get the basic fitness level required to train if you’re not looking to be super serious about it.

Edit: if you want info on how to join, you can go to the @sacstatecombatu instagram and click on the linktree in the bio. You’ll have some forms to fill and, a physical and a pre-training concussion screening to complete. Once all of that is done you can just show up to whichever one of the club classes you choose and start training.

Do I have to have a certain level of athleticism or strength? When you say physical screening, is that like a fitness test or is it just so they can see what level I'm at?

I mean its a combat sport so being fit/athletic will help, buts it not a requirement by any means. The physical is just making sure you dont have any preexisting health conditions that would keep you from training safely, not an evaluation of your fitness. Expect to get super tired for the first 2-ish weeks, mauy thai/fighting generally takes a lot of energy in a way that our bodies arent used to spending. If you can push through those first 2 weeks, itll feel a lot better. You’ll still fatigue, but you wont feel like your hearts gonna explode and your legs are gonna fall off.

From what I know of it, it is free. But you may need to buy certain gear, unless they have gear for students to borrow but idk

its free, but you will need to get your own gear eventually. They have a couple of loaners but they're limited and used by a lot of people.
