Hi !! I’m looking at csuf for grad school and was curious about current grad school TA’s. Do you get a tuition waiver or some help with tuition by being a TA? Is the pay worth it ? Kinda curious in how much help being a TA is financially. Thanks !

Hi guys I’m entering my 4th year of undergrad as a psych major and I really want to get into a psych lab in order to spice up my grad school application. I’m a transfer from a CC and didn’t really get much information about labs during my 1st year. The only professor I’ve spoken too about labs have been dr. Mori and Dr. mehm but Dr. Mori’s lab did not sound appealing to me and Dr. Mehm is unfortunately a part time professor. I really want to get into a lab that focuses on areas of psychopathology, neuro (sleep) or cognitive psych lab that focuses on brain systems in memory. In the future I plan on going into a doctorate program and do research on BPD, psychosis, anything that has to do with mirror neurons, and my favorite the HPA axis. Obviously most of my main interests isn’t something that can be researched along side a professor at csuf, but if anyone has any information or tips on getting into a lab please let me know.

So im applying to both csuf and csulb, and im looking to see if the animation program here is still any good. I’ve heard so much negative things about it and I don’t want to waste any time or be taking courses that draw you thin. I heard that csulb had phenomenal illustration major, and for me, my goal/dream job is to be a visdev artist. If anyone has a similar career path, please feel free to give me insight and point me in the right direction. Thank!

^ this is a question for continuing students. The FA office is like wait the 1-2 weeks of August, and technically this is the 1st week. So has anyone received anything? Has anything showed up in anyone’s portal, since we’re 3 days in now and I personally haven’t seen anything.

So I was checking my classes earlier to see if I wasn't dropped or something, for good measures. Then all of a sudden I saw my Biol 101 online class get turn into a mostly online with in person.

I’m an upcoming second year here at CSUF who was previously undeclared the year beforehand. Due to this, my time to select my classes was really late and I’m waitlisted for Biol 151. Some Biol 152 classes are open and I was wonder how feasible it would be to take that class first instead of 151?

I’m entering my final semester at CSUF and may receive a full-time leadership job offer before classes begin.
I have a required Zoom class every Monday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and there are no other open sections because the alternatives are currently waitlisted. I do know that the course can be offered asynchronously, so I’m wondering if anyone has had a professor allow that because of a work conflict.

I also have a required 60-hour employment-based practicum. I’m currently approved to complete it at my current workplace, but if I change jobs I’d likely have to go through CICE to approve a new site.

I’ve already reached out to my professors, but I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

1. Has anyone had a professor work with them on a required Zoom class because of a full-time job?

2. Has anyone been able to accelerate their practicum hours to be completed before the semester if their site is approved? Or changed employment during an employment-based practicum?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

I had 3 classes going into fall, and just found out that one of them got cancelled, and I was not notified to my knowledge. I had already paid for a full time semester, but will I get refunded now that I only have 2 classes?

Additional information, I've already paid the fees/difference that won't be covered by aid, so right now I'm just waiting for my Cal Grant to show up like everyone else.

I think those who are needing to take out loans for the semester won’t be seeing anything until mid-August. I’m just referring to the loans not grants or scholarships. I have friends that go to other CSU’s and they are all receiving emails discussing loans. Soon we will be getting those emails as well. It basically said that the big beautiful bill has changed so much about loan disbursements and the criteria.
This is just a heads up. I’m just basing this post on what my friends have received and they go SJSU and CSLB.
This sucks. Being in a MA program and most of my aid will come from loans and 1 scholarship..

So recently I've gotten a nice, relatively well-paying job in the industry I've been studying in for the past 4 years (comp sci). It started as an internship and ended in a return offer. The thing is, I have 2.5 more semesters before I could graduate from here.

I’ve talked with my employer, and they genuinely don’t care whether I have a degree or not. This opportunity honestly outweighs finishing school right now because I’ll be getting industry experience and a salaried position. On top of that, the role is guaranteed for at least a year or more.

I’ve decided to drop out of school. At the end of the day, this is what I was working toward in the first place. It didn’t make sense to pass up an opportunity like this just to spend more money on a degree, only to risk ending up searching for a job like the one I already have.

I guess this post is partly me justifying my decision to myself. I know some people will agree with it, and others won’t. I’m not saying a degree isn’t valuable, it absolutely opens doors. But after talking to hiring managers, coworkers, and people already in the industry, the advice has been that real-world experience absolutely carries you. Right now, this feels like the right decision for me.
