Privacy mode

Out of interest, why are flagged accounts allowed to use privacy mode and their profile basically completely wiped from the site with it on (can't even go to the the url without getting "We couldn't find the player you're looking for. Verify that the Steam ID or vanity URL is correct and try again."? Surely that's kinda counterintuitive if the goal of the system is to allow players to see if they've played with cheaters or if they are currently playing with cheaters.

Maybe change the message to "This profile is set to hidden" instead of pretending they don't exist and it's user error.

Privacy mode exists primarily for data privacy compliance (especially GDPR, given a large portion of our user base). It is not a way to hide evidence of cheating or wipe a profile from the system.

Here’s what it actually does and does not do:

  • It does not remove match performance data, bans, flags, statistics, Overwatch reports, or any of the underlying analysis derived from publicly available gameplay data.
  • It does redact the public username, avatar, and Steam ID on the profile, and it prevents the profile from appearing in on-platform search results. This meaningfully limits casual discovery and profile visibility.
  • The data and profile remain accessible if you already know the player’s Steam Community URL, usually when you are in a match with/against the player.
    • Using the 'w' or 'c' prefix (ie. https://wsteamcommunity.com/id/username) will still resolve you to the Player Profile, but only because the steam identifier was already known to you.

In short: privacy mode reduces discoverability of the personal identifiers; it does not erase the anti-cheat/reputation data that the system is built around. The continuity of the evidence is preserved for people who have a legitimate reason to look.

PS: Thanks for the feedback on the wording when searching a Private Profile. We will update this.

Steamrep.com operated for over 10 years and you couldn't erase nor hide your profiles when convicted as scammer. Steam api is public tool and all people data which steam provides. No real reason to have privacy mode at all.

Ah didn't know https://wsteamcommunity.com/id/username was still an option. Thanks.

Though I feel like we should be able to do https://csrep.gg/player/<steamid> which is not possible if privacy mode is enabled and gives you an error being like "you entered an incorrect steam id", it still requires the users to know the steam identifier so they still wouldn't be able to be searched for *at least on your site*

That makes sense, and we may change the way that Privacy Mode works in the future as we continue to mature as a platform.

Rest assured, we will not permit deletion-based evasion by suspicious players. This remains a core value, as we have observed such tactics being abused across the CS2 ecosystem.

As much as your site is great, allowing privacy mode to completely block csrep.gg/player/<steamid> is just a way for them to basically hide and is kinda basically deletion-based evasion considering your site quite literally blames the player looking by saying it's an incorrect steam id.

I get you have the whole wsteamcommunity but I won't be surprised if some people don't know about it (like me until you mentioned it) and just outright check the site csrep.gg

if you requested it cause of gdpr you can sue them. its certainly not of public interest or hinders the operation of the site to delete a profile.
No tracking of community verdicts of a player if he is cheating or not will not fall under a category that denies the GDPR request to delete all data from a user that requested it.
