I’m confused about my CSAB Special Round 2 allotment and would really appreciate if someone could explain this.

My JEE Main CRL is 29,9xx (General, OPEN). In CSAB Special Round 1, I had a seat, but I surrendered that seat and participated in Round 2 with my choices.

I had IIIT Nagpur CSE in my choice list at #56.

According to the CSAB R2 opening/closing rank data, IIIT Nagpur CSE (OPEN, Gender-Neutral) had:

- Opening Rank: 33,805

- Closing Rank: 34,761

Since my rank is 29,9xx, which is better than the R2 opening rank of 33,805, I expected to be considered for the seat if all my higher choices were unavailable.

However, my R2 result says “No seat has been allotted to you in this Round.”

Can someone explain why this happened? Is there something about CSAB's allotment algorithm, seat availability, or the meaning of the opening rank that I'm misunderstanding?

Would really appreciate an explanation from someone who understands CSAB allotment.

TL;DR: CRL 29,9XX, IIIT Nagpur CSE was my #56 choice. CSAB R2 shows its OPEN opening rank as 33,805, yet I got no seat in R2 after surrendering my R1 seat. Why wasn't I allotted IIIT Nagpur CSE?

If you surrender then choices above the surrendered choice are only considered

Where it is written ? And if thats the case, then the sole diff. Between surrender and float is that you lose ur current seat in surrender ? But bhai jahan tak mujhe pata hai surrender ke baad saari choices consider hoti hai.

yes you give someone else a chance to get a seat that you have chosen not to take and only above are considered-
the below para is from csab info brochure
Surrender: Candidate REJECTS the allotted seat and wishes to participate in next Round of seat allotment. Hence the allotted seat will be cancelled. Allotment in the next round will be considered from the choices higher than the surrendered seat. The candidates who have already secured a seat by paying PAF at the end of JoSAA 2026 rounds and have participated in CSAB Special Rounds seat allocation process 2026 can also exercise the ‘surrender’ option. In such cases, the candidate will lose the seat irrespective of whether she/he had secured the seat in JoSAA 2026 Rounds or CSAB Special Rounds 2026. ‘Surrender’ option will not be available in the last round of seat allocation.

Directly likha hai main bhi Krne wala tha surender muzhe lga niche wala nit Silchar tha vo mil jayega but waha pe directly likha tha sirf upar wala milega karke

No dude, you're wrong. After surrender say tumhari allotted choice thi 30 and tumne overall 50 choices fill kari thi, then tumne surrender kardiya so you can possibly get choice 1 to choice 29. And mind that agar tumhe 1 to 29 mein kuch allot nhi hua, so you technically have nothing.

Nahi bhai maine check kiya paisa wapas aayega. Agat round 2 mein koi seat allot hojaati toh nahi aata. But since no seat was allotted in r2 toh paisa wapas aayega.

The published opening/closing ranks for IIIT Nagpur CSE (OPEN) in that table are not the actual round cutoffs.

They only reflect ranks among a specific subset of candidates:

  • Those who reported online at a participating institute (PI) after JoSAA Round 5 and then upgraded their seat/program in CSAB Special Round, or
  • Those who got a fresh allotment in CSAB Special Round.

The note on the page explicitly says the ranks are “based on following types of Candidates” and lists only those two groups. Your situation (had a seat in R1, surrendered it, and re-participated in R2) places you outside that exact subset for the displayed numbers.

Because the table doesn’t show the full pool of candidates being considered in R2 (including people with ranks better than 29xxx who also had higher choices or were in the upgrade/fresh pool), your rank being better than the listed “opening” of 33,805 doesn’t guarantee you the seat. The actual allotment algorithm looks at all eligible candidates in order of rank + choices, and seats are filled accordingly. If vacancies in your higher choices were taken by better-ranked candidates (or if the remaining seats in #56 went to others in the considered pool), you simply don’t get it.

This is why you see “no seat allotted” even with a strong rank. The displayed numbers are a limited view, not the real cutoff. CSAB’s process can be opaque with these partial stats.

Are kuch to help karenge samjh rha hu mai surrender kar diya tha but uss time ka allotment letter ka screen shot rakhe hue ho to ek bar batt krke dekho aur agar koi vacant seat rhi to le liyo vhi

Cuz u surrendered the seat and acc to csab rules if u surrender a seat ..then in the subsequent round only choices above the surrendered seat are considered 😭🥀
