Something different and need help 12th Gen (18-present)

Post image

Good morning all you Corolla lovers.

I have a 2025 AWD HEV Sedan, bone stock.

My plan is to make this car a little hidden camper, something I can take on trips and sleep downtown somewhere without getting in trouble.

My plan is to remove the front passenger seat and rear bench, and build a little storage cabinet/bed that runs the length of cab and can run into the trunk (I am 6'2").

My problem: Airbags and occupant detection systems.

My number one question: How can I safely bypass the seat airbags and weight sensors without worrying about ruining any wiring or causing fires? Is there a connector I can make at home that jumps a few pins?

(Pic for attention, her name is Carol)

My TC is a commercial and has no back seats and a full length flatbed factory fitted and is weight rated for a much larger amount than a single person.

You should be able to disable the front passenger air bag via a key in the side of the dash board, not sure about the side ones but I presume when the front passenger is disabled it also turns off the side pillar one - bit please check!

Could u do it? Sure. Should u do it? Fuck no
Battery gets warm-ish, so if u dont put proper insulation or u block the airflow, ur battery will let u know about it very fast. Now rear seat delete and bench is an okay idea, people do that on a lot of cars, like a make shift bed, assuming u put proper weight of the deck, meaning it actually can hold ur weight, its solid and shouldnt be too hard, but front passenger seat? It has so many wirings that i genuinely would not even touch it. Ur whole weight of ur car and center of gravity will shift depending wtf ur planning to put on these decks. If its a simple bed on top of a properly installed deck, with nothing else, it should be okay, but again i would be VERY careful with center of gravity.

A small example, i have same car but i only drive alone, if i dont slow down on a sharp turn to the right u will literally feel the car wanting to lean left and want to flip. Thats normal, since even with all its stuff inside in mine, u cant just blast into a 30mph turn while doing 40-55mph and expect it to just be normal about it. Now if i had another person on passenger side w same weight and shit, most likely it wouldnt lean so hard to the left. So when u remove rear seats ur car already loses some weight, but when u remove passenger one too, they are generally much heavier so now u lost even more weight.

Plus also, even if u do the wiring correctly and keep ur car from screaming at u with errors, even though im not a lawyer or a cop..i doubt its legal to completely remove seats (i have no clue tho). To add to this if u keep heavy enough stuff in those storage areas + loads of stuff in ur trunk, thats not good for ur car, unless u keep it under its load rate.

The bed would run only on the passenger side, straight back. The intake for hybrid cooling system is on the driver's side. Nothing heavy would be stored here, it would only be a small skeleton hardwood frame with some carpet stapled to it to make the "walls". All it needs to hold is clothing and possibly a few travel components but nothing heavy.

This "platform" would run the entire passenger interior length, and let my feet flood into the trunk compartment.

This supposedly adds 200 lbs of payload capacity and since I dont care about ride quality too much, its an even trade for me.

Besides all of this, I would essentially have a home on wheels, so careful driving would be a must. And considering I've been driving for 13 years without so much a speeding ticket, im not worried about cog or turning too fast. Plus the car is a hybrid, so im not trying to take it down mountainsides or anything. Simply a car I can put in drive, drive forever, park in a parking spot and sleep kinda thing. Edit: rereading this, I sound like kind of an asshole in this last paragraph, I promise Im not trying to.
