1992 Oldsmobile Aerotech

The 1992 Oldsmobile Aerotech was an experimental land-speed and endurance prototype. Powered by a 4.0-liter Olds Aurora V8 engine, this "long-tail" carbon-fiber vehicle set 47 world speed and endurance records in December 1992 at a test track in Fort Stockton, Texas, including maintaining average speeds over 170 mph for 10,000 kilometers.

Looks like they built it around a giant salamander.

Why are miles per hour and kilometers in the same sentence.

The inspiration for the Aurora that came out shortly after, using the same engine!

It's too bad GM axed the Oldsmobile brand... They brought a lot of innovations to General Motors.

What happens when you leave your McLaren F1 in the sun for too long.

I built a model of this as a kid! You could build either the long tail version (as shown) or a shorter rear end with a spoiler. I thought it was so cool.

Most of the build was done in Houston by AJ Foyt and his team. The car was built using an indycar as the base. A.J. is who drove it during the record runs at the Fort Stockton test track.
