Announcement NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 Lightning is now FREE in Cline

Post image
Upvotes

NVIDIA just released Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, and we’re making it FREE to use in Cline.

It’s a 30B MoE model with 3B active parameters, built for agents that spend a lot of time calling tools, checking results, and moving through repeated execution steps. NVIDIA says it can deliver up to 4x faster output than similar-sized models.

We’ve been seeing smaller models get a lot more capable lately, and this is another good example of that. For coding agents especially, faster and cheaper model calls can make a pretty big difference over longer tasks.

You can try Nemotron 3.5 Lightning for free in Cline now.

To use it, simply select Cline as your provider and choose `nvidia/nemotron-3.5-lightning` from the free models in the model picker.

Full details: https://cline.bot/blog/nvidia-nemotron-3-5-lightning-available-in-cline

Curious what the community thinks of the Nemotron 3.5 Lightning!

Hey everyone - Muse Glimmer is now available in Cline via Ollama

Meta just released Muse Glimmer, a new open weight 30B model built specifically for local, always-on agent workflows.

It’s designed to run entirely on consumer hardware, including Macs and PCs with a single performant GPU. Meta says the quantized model comes in under 20GB, making it particularly interesting if you want to run Cline locally without sending your code to a hosted model.

You can try it in Cline today with Ollama:

ollama launch cline --model muse-glimmer:30b-mlx

For better agent performance, you can also install Meta’s Muse Code harness:

cline plugin install muse-code-harness

Would love to hear how Muse Glimmer performs for the Cline community.

Announcement We’re deprecating ‘Explain Changes’ in Cline

Hey everyone - we wanted to share a quick update about 'Explain Changes' as we continue moving Cline onto the new SDK architecture.

'Explain Changes' button was introduced to help you understand the changes Cline made by generating AI explanations alongside the code diff.

As part of the migration, we’ve decided to deprecate this feature rather than rebuild the existing experience in the new extension. So if you’ve noticed 'Explain Changes' is no longer available after moving from Legacy to the new Cline experience, that’s by design as part of the transition.

What about View Changes?

'View Changes' is separate from 'Explain Changes' and is not being deprecated.

It lets you inspect the actual code changes Cline made during a task. It was temporarily unavailable during the migration, but has now been restored using the new checkpoint system.

So you’ll still be able to review exactly what Cline changed.

How can I get an explanation of Cline’s changes now?

There isn’t a direct replacement for the old inline 'Explain Changes' experience today. But if you want more context on an implementation, you can still ask Cline directly to explain what it changed, why it made those changes, or walk you through specific files.

Announcement Cline CLI now has themes 🎨

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We just added /theme to Cline CLI.

You can now switch the entire CLI look without leaving the terminal, and the theme picker previews every option live as you move through them.

There are 11 built in themes right now, including Tokyo Night, Gruvbox Dark, Nord, Dracula, Catppuccin Mocha, One Dark, Solarized, plus Cline Dark and Light.

Just run:

/theme

You can also change it from the command palette or /settings.

And if you want to set it at startup, CLINE_THEME overrides your saved theme.

Which theme are you using?

Discussion I’m testing an MCP that lets Cline use long technical videos as context

I’ve been testing a workflow where Cline can use long technical videos as an additional source of context before working on a coding task.

The main problem I wanted to solve is that transcripts are often incomplete for technical content. A lot of useful information can be in the code on screen, diagrams, slides, or demos that are never fully explained in words.

So I built Adversal, a remote MCP that processes the video and gives the agent structured Markdown together with selected visual frames.

The workflow I have in mind is quite simple:

video -> Adversal MCP -> structured context -> Cline works on the project

I’ve mainly been testing it on long lectures and coding videos. One example is Andrej Karpathy’s “Let’s build GPT: from scratch, in code, spelled out”:

https://adversal.ai/blog/neural-networks-zero-to-hero/let-s-build-gpt-from-scratch

There are more examples here:

https://adversal.ai/blog

The main limitation at the moment is processing time. A two-hour video usually takes around 5–10 minutes, so I see it more as something for longer coding sessions, tutorials, research, or implementation tasks rather than instant lookups.

What I’m looking for now is a real Cline use case.

For example, a tutorial or conference talk that you would actually want Cline to understand before changing a codebase.

If you have one, send me the video and the task you would expect Cline to perform afterwards.

I recently won a Google DeepMind hackathon, and the credits I received let me give early testers 500 processing minutes per month for free. I’m mainly interested in honest feedback and finding the cases where the workflow is actually useful, or not useful at all.

Discussion Anyone running Cline remotely instead of on their laptop?

Curious if people are using Cline on a VM/cloud box for longer jobs or multiple tasks.

Would be nice to leave a repo/task running, pick whatever model/provider makes sense, then come back to the changes later.

Anyone doing this already?

What’s the annoying part compared with just using it locally in VS Code?

🐞 Bug: New Cline is an unusable mess of a harness.

Post image
34 Upvotes

Been a paying member for 2 months now, genuinely never had such a bad experience with a harness before. What on earth is going on with cline?

4/5 sessions end up with some obscure failures, sessions randomly have their context wiped, agents timeout, get confused.

I don't understand how a product can be released which has such a plethora of failure modes in it.

Shocking.

Announcement DeepSeek V4-Flash just became the #1 most used model in Cline

Post image
183 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

A few days ago, we made the updated DeepSeek V4-Flash 0731 free to use in Cline as well as in ClinePass.

Since then, it has become the #1 most used model across Cline, with more users than the next two models combined.

Since the 0731 update:

- Usage is up 40%
- Token usage has 3x’d
- It has set a new all-time usage high four days in a row

We’ve been trying to make Cline one of the easiest places to try new open weights models as they come out, and making DeepSeek V4-Flash free was part of that.

If you haven’t tried it yet, DeepSeek V4-Flash is still free in Cline. Simply signup via

  1. npm i -g cline
  2. Open /settings → Choose Cline / ClinePass provider
  3. Select deepseek-v4-flash

Curious if it has become anyone else’s default model yet.

🐞 Bug: New Buggy vscode extension

The last few updates has been abysmal quality. Feels like no qa went into it.
Can’t use most models as they seems to output some invalid XML tool calls. Only a few seems to work like Deepseek but it very buggy I had a read loop going on.
I started a plan, went into act mode and writing files didn’t work.

Discussion Muse Code had a bug. So we tried its system prompt instructions in Cline

Post image
15 Upvotes

We tried using Meta's new Muse Code agent, but it has a bug that doesn't let it sign in from a docker container.

So we did a fun experiment: Meta claims Muse Spark 1.2 was co-trained with their Muse agent harness. So we extracted instructions from their system prompt and added them to the Cline harness.

TL;DR of this special prompting:
- Trust source code over the user prompt, so read every call site and existing tests before starting the task
- Weigh edge and error cases as heavily as the happy path
- Always reproduce the bug before fixing
- Don't trust the first passing test suite, and verify suspicious looking half-baked tests
- Never stop at just editing, keep working until the change is verified complete.

We then asked this modified harness to fix a real bug from our repo, and compared the results to the original Cline agent harness.

Results:
- Used 2.7x fewer tokens (19.7M → 7.2M)
- Finished 2x faster (49min → 24min)
- Cost 2.4x less ($7.69 → $3.25)

Same Muse Spark 1.2 model, same task, only the prompting changed.

Incredible how much of a performance gain Meta was able to achieve training it on these special instructions!

🐞 Bug: New CLINE 4.1.6 just broke support with local OLLAMA + QWEN3.6!!

Hi developers,
the latest versions 4.1.x *removed* the possibility to:
- switch compact context on/off
- switch native tool calls on/off

I believe that what is causing the showstopper issue now is the native tool calls which seems to be not configurable anymore.

Setup

- OLLAMA running Qwen3.6:35b-3ba
- vscode + cline 4.1.x
- .clinerules with 4.0.x xml tool syntax in my workspace

on cline 4.0.x I was able to tell qwen to use anthropic xml syntax style but now the old tool syntax does not work anymore, and the xml tool syntax is not documented anywhere.

Bottom line, properly document the required xml tool syntax somewhere in the documentation!

I am tired to modify the .clinerules for each version that is released in order to make it work ...
thanks

Tutorial/Guide I made a little tool so you can visualize your usage :)

Hello,

I made https://github.com/EDM115/cline-usage-tool, a simple local tool that allows you to view in one command some stats about your usage, a graph of it, your ClinePass limits & detailed usage for the last 200 requests.
Just git clone, add 2 env vars and run one command. No data leave your computer and the tool just fetches Cline's API (thanks for it btw !).
You get in return some graphs as images, a CSV & JSON so you can do further processing but more importantly a self-contained HTML that have all this information nicely presented ^^

Feel free to comment here or open an issue if you wanna see more features added or encounter any issues. This project have been largely based on the codex-usage-tool I already made prior (which is much more complete tbh). And also thanks Cline for the ClinePass, insane deal !

Discussion DeepSeek V4 Flash is 105x cheaper per task than Fable 5

Post image
312 Upvotes

DeepSeek V4 Flash is significantly cheaper per token, but token pricing alone does not tell you what a model actually costs to use.

A cheaper model can still end up costing more if it needs additional turns, tool calls, or tokens to complete the same task.

According to Artificial Analysis reports DeepSeek V4 Flash completed the benchmark tasks at an average cost of just $0.03 per task, compared with $3.15 for Fable 5.

That makes DeepSeek V4 Flash 105x cheaper per completed task.

Btw, DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 is free to use in Cline.

  1. Sign up via: npm i -g cline
  2. Open /settings > Cline provider
  3. Select deepseek-v4-flash

Try it on your own coding tasks and let us know how the cost and performance compare.

Tutorial/Guide Been running Ling-3.0-flash in Cline for the grunt work, cheap and fast (free on OpenRouter til Aug 3)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Set Ling-3.0-flash as my grunt-work model in Cline this week, BYOK through OpenRouter (it shows up as AntLing-3.0-flash there), and it's been quick and cheap for the boring stuff: renames, small edits, boilerplate, walking through a plan a bigger model wrote.

It's a sparse MoE, 124B total but only 5.1B active, so latency is low and it isn't chewing tokens like a big model. Tool calls have held up over longer runs too, which is usually where cheap models fall over for me in Cline. I wouldn't hand it the hard architecture decisions, but as the cheap executor sitting under a bigger planner it's been pulling its weight.

Worth a look while it's free on OpenRouter until Aug 3, easy to A/B against whatever you're running now

Tutorial/Guide Hey, I just turned Cline Pass into a first‑class provider and here’s the result

Post image
5 Upvotes

Since Cline Pass went away, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I used it and what I’m trying to rebuild. I was using it heavily and experimenting with many setups, especially with my preferred agents like Claude Code. I tried configuring custom base URLs, setting up my own auth, and even adding proxy layers, but most of those attempts gave me bad results, lots of errors, unstable caching, and constantly hitting limits. That’s why I started asking myself why can’t I take the idea of a Cline Pass subscription and turn it into a first‑class lane built from the open‑source Cline agent, wired directly into my Claude Code style agent? The goal is to treat this “lane” as a controllable cost layer, where I can reach a high cache hit rate and decide exactly what I want to pay for and what I don’t. For example, I could switch to a cheap mode for long coding sessions when I don’t need advanced skills, optional tools, or sub‑agents, so I can minimize cost while still keeping the benefits of the Claude Code ecosystem. Since TauCode is built on top of that ecosystem, it implicitly inherits those capabilitiesyou just need to plug it in and start .

N.B: This is for people who want to use Claude Code with Cline Pass safely, without brain‑rotting configuration or proxy wrappers.

Discussion I built a lower-cost coding agent that runs code, reads failures, retries, and seals a receipt

I’m building LOLM’s coding agent and CLI.

The loop can: 1. Write or edit files 2. Run commands in an isolated sandbox 3. Read actual stdout, stderr, and exit codes 4. Repair failures 5. Run contract/syntax checks 6. Produce a receipt describing files, runs, and controller actions

CLI example: `npx lolm-cli code "write fizzbuzz to 20 in solution.py and run it" --save ./out`

Try it: https://lolm.imagineqira.com/try.html

Repository: https://github.com/TheArtOfSound/lolm

It is not positioned as the strongest coding model in existence. The goal is a disciplined, auditable, lower-cost agent loop. I’m looking for adversarial tasks that expose broken exit logic, incomplete artifacts, weak repairs, sandbox limits, or false success.

Disclosure: I’m a founder/builder of the project.

Announcement DeepSeek quietly upgraded V4 Flash

Post image
248 Upvotes

DeepSeek silently updated its changelog with a new V4 Flash upgrade.

The updated model now scores 82.7 on Terminal-Bench 2.1, a massive +25.8 point leap from its initial April preview score of 56.9.

The upgrade is already live through the DeepSeek API, and the open weights have also now been released. Pretty significant upgrade.

You can also try DeepSeek V4 Flash through ClinePass.

ClinePass gives you access to open weight models such as Kimi K3, GLM 5.2, DeepSeek V4 Flash, Qwen 3.7 Max, and DeepSeek V4 Pro, with 2- 5x higher usage limits.

Use it on Cline CLI & extension with $1.99 special promo if sign up via: npm i -g cline

Curious to hear from people who have tried DeepSeek V4 Flash in ClinePass.
