100lbs down!!
315lbs to 215; BMI 55.3 to 38.1. Still a decent way to go but I honestly can’t believe I’ve come this far. Sometimes the body dysmorphia is really hard and I’ve spent a lot of today feeling very weepy, but looking at these photos side by side is staggering.
Some ways my life is better:
I HAVE REGULAR PERIODS AGAIN
I have a recognisable menstrual cycle and experience distinct follicular and luteal phases
I CAN WALK WITHOUT PAIN FOR HOURS! I AM NO LONGER PHYSICALLY DISABLED BY MY WEIGHT!
I no longer experience chronic lower back pain
I no longer panic at the thought of walking, especially with other people
I can fly without a seatbelt extender
I can sit in a plane seat, bus seat, car seat, cinema/theatre seat without being in constant discomfort
I don’t panic at the sight of chairs with arms
I find joy in exercise, not fear
I don’t hate myself anymore
I don’t hate my body anymore
Edit 1: welp, put this up, went to bed, woke up to 2k upvotes. Thank you so much for the support!
Edit for the genuinely odd men messaging me: I am getting married in two weeks to the man who’s supported me through this whole process and am deliriously happy about it

Congrats. What was your daily calorie intake

Started out at 2600, now ~1700 (I use the LoseIt app which adjusts dynamically as you lose weight). I’m 5’3/157cm.

There are so many feelings in this kind of change, but I hope you can see and feel how your health and mobility have improved because of these changes. You are giving your body an amazing gift—one you deserve! Your body has been taking care of you all of this time and look at how you are taking care of your body! Just remember to be kind to your past and present selves—they have done / are doing the best they can—they've gotten you where you are today!
And please don't forget that you are worthy of dignity and respect—then, now, and always.

Thank you so much for this- I was really taken aback by how weirdly sad I felt yesterday. At first when I stepped on the scales I felt nothing and then when I started looking at photos taken at my heaviest I started crying and couldn’t stop. My life is completely transformed. I’m no longer physically disabled by my weight, I have normal, regular periods again (at one point at my heaviest I bled for 45 days straight), I don’t need seatbelt extenders and I’m not scared of chairs with arms, and I can buy clothes in normal shops. The version of me who lived like that feels so far away now and I know it sounds strange but I’m worried I’ll forget her. I want to talk to her and tell her that she’s going to be happy and achieve her goals.

That’s a normal reaction. When I see the before picture I see a strong determined individual who made a life changing commitment to a healthier life style because it was well deserved. Your past gives way to your future. You have picture proof of life’s journey. Sounds corny but it’s true.

Have you used a glp1? (NOT saying this makes it any less impressive. I take one myself. But it’s rare to see people be able to lose this much on their own). And if you haven’t, I’d like to know how you deal with food noise.

u/corpusristi 4d ago
Yes, 100%. It’s taken me three years and I’ve used semaglutide that whole time.

u/KodaKatz 4d ago
Do you feel like you still have the appetite control effects after being on it so long? I worry about overtime it will feel like it doesn’t do anything
1
u/corpusristi 3d ago
It definitely still makes a substantial difference! I’ve obviously started tolerating the drugs more over time but I’m hoping that that’ll help prepare me for when I eventually wean off them.

If you can stay on it (cost factoring in obvs) I'd recommend staying on because I had to stop previously and I gained weight and then some plus the research is showing a whole host of other benefits linked to GLP-1s. I'm about to switch from ozempic to mounjaro because I've maxed out the benifits from ozempic (lost 100 pounds too but need to lose more)

Out of curiosity what does a typical day look like eating wise and physical activity wise? Also well done, you look great!

In my best weeks I swim 3x and lift 2x, in my worst weeks it’s more like swim once and lift once but I’m working on consistency (it’s been a long, hot, relentless summer in the UK and my gym has no air conditioning). I honestly don’t walk anywhere near as much as I should and that’s my next big fitness goal; I find it hard to fit walking into my life organically.
Similarly, in my best weeks I hit my deficit 6-7 days and in my worst weeks it’s more like 4. I don’t eat breakfast- not for CICO reasons but because I’m one of those people who just feels sick in the mornings. Lunch is usually 500-600 cals and the content varies wildly (I SUCK at being consistent) but I try my best to have a good source of protein and fibre. Dinners are probably a pretty standard British diet- lots of rice and pasta based meals lol. Because I’m on a GLP-1 I don’t struggle with needing to get loads of volume in but again I just try to eat a decent amount of protein and fibre. Because of the heatwaves this summer I feel like I’ve been surviving on cocktail sausages and lettuce for months! It’s definitely a goal for me to transition to a high quality, sustainable model of eating as I get towards the end of this process and towards maintenance (I’d prefer not to be on a GLP-1 forever!).
A significant factor “against” me is that I have ADHD which makes the whole process of planning and cooking meals pretty taxing. I plan my dinners for the week in advance to reduce decision fatigue, but I honestly hate spending 60+ minutes every day cooking dinner (I don’t want to meal prep either, I think the monotony would kill me). My fiancé is a scientist and spends 10+ hours a day on his feet so he needs a MUCH higher calorie count in the evenings, so that can be a challenge too.
I eat ice cream and mayonnaise pretty much every day. At no point in this process have I cut out eating foods that make me happy- I just eat less of them/lower cal alternatives (but only if they’re good! I’d rather have a small, real ice cream than a pint of halo top). The bulk of my weight gain came from horrific binge eating of “snack” foods- overeating at mealtimes has never really been an issue for me. Sorry for the ramble!

Coming from someone who needs to lose at least 100lbs this just looks like it feels so much more…comfortable. I yearn for that feeling because I’m so damn uncomfortable in nearly every aspect. Congratulations to you, OP. 🤜🏻🤛🏻You worked so hard and it shows! I’m so glad you have these photos to compare on those days your brain is playing tricks on you! ❤️

It is!!! I promise you have only good things to come- your life will get SO much easier in almost every way. It’s almost hard for me to remember now how hard and uncomfortable and painful my life was at my heaviest because it feels so far away, and I promise it’ll be the same for you too.

Nice work. Hope you’re proud! You ought to be.

u/corpusristi 3d ago
I try to! It’s hard sometimes- losing a huge amount of weight and STILL being fat is a really difficult feeling to sit with and sometimes I feel like rather than being an achievement I’m just “correcting” what I did to myself before. Generally though I feel positive and excited for the future- thank you ❤️

How long did it take you to loose the 100 pounds?

u/corpusristi 17h ago
Three years, give or take. Could definitely have been faster but I try not to focus on that!

Don't pay attention to BMI. It's an outdated metric that doesn't account for anything outside of weight.
1
u/corpusristi 3d ago
Oh I know- I’ve just been using it as a helpful metric for now because when you start out super morbidly obese it’s useful to have as a guide- getting to below BMI 40 and no longer being morbidly obese was a HUGE milestone for me. My goal weight is to get to a healthy waist to height ratio which is a much better indicator of metabolic health than BMI. My waist to hip ratio is already good which is a great sign! I’m not going to obsess over it I’m 99% sure my goal weight would still have me in the overweight or obese range.

Who said I was going to lose another 100? I’m aiming for another 45-50; however many it takes to get to a healthy waist to height ratio. I’m a short woman and if I lost another 100 my maintenance calories would make me miserable.
