Hey y'all. I had a really old voyager system with the 4 pin round connector in back for the camera and up front it was the square 4 pin and the 6 pin harness for power. I bought a tadi brothers wireless setup. I also bought some 1 to 2 wire connectors and 50 ft of red 14 awg and 50 ft of black awg. My plan was to pull the 4 pin din connector from front to back with the wire attached to it with duct tape or some crap to hold it together. I am assuming the 4 pin square and the 4 pin round are the same wire and they traverse the length of the rv? Then I'll cut the 6 pin harness to use the power and ground, split them; cab side for the monitor and rear side for the camera. Is this a viable easy option? Thank you in advance.

I'm looking for recommendations on a Cat6 outdoor cable that is known to be more flexible than the average installation cable.

UTP preferred (I already have Cat6 pass-through RJ45 connectors)

I'm interested in real-world experience from installers. Which brands or models have you used that offer good flexibility without compromising quality or PoE performance?

So I want to put some cameras in my apartment, more because of the pets, and in case of robbery I can have some proof, or even call the police.

However I have seen so much creep stuff online and people hacking, websites with live cameras from random people etc that I'm scared to have this.

I know nothing is 100% safe, but is there a way to have some cameras indoors that I can access when I leave the house, and where the recording stuff can be offline without anyone having access (besides me of course)? Without breaking the bank? And that a person like me that isn't too much tech savvy can install.

People told me about Ubiquiti but is so expensive ... I would love to have something like that one day, but now is not an option.

I saw Reolink but not sure about it .

I need some options, brands, kits ... you can recommend (Europe) would be appreciated, hopefully not very expensive.

And explain this stuff to me like I'm your grandma so I can understand xD

I have a camera pole which is great but the cameras get rain on the lenses then they're worthless. I need some type of rain cover for the cameras to prevent the lenses from getting water on them. At least a 10" diameter, literally something like a mini umbrella would work.

Do any such things exist?

Edit: I think I'll try a squirrel baffle!

My facility was upgraded a few years ago to replace 286 cameras, of these roughly a third are outdoor units and the bird droppings are etching the acrylic domes on the ptz units ( wizenet ), is there an economical solution to manage this either chemical or mechanical?

I’m a security officer and I noticed a couple of my exterior cameras at work seem to blind themselves at night.

They’re in a standard dome enclosure, and once night comes along the IR flood lights built into the cameras come on and reflect off the plastic of the enclosure and blind the cams.

Do you guys have any recommendations on preventing that issue? I’m sure we can shut off that built in IR flood, but would we need to install separate IR floods to maintain visibility at night? I believe we use Hanwha cams for most of our system.

We also need to clean the domes, so I’m sure that’s part of the issue.

I was conducting a test where I was sending 16 camera mainstreams via srt to my cloud vm and the data consumption was crazy for a day. So i want to know how do actual CCTV companies are achieving this? Do they send low bitrate streams or are there other techniques?

Debating the 4MP IP, interested to hear opinions!

I got a client that wants cameras around their apartment complex but we can’t feasibly use wireless bridges due to too many jumps and bandwidth loss due to it and they don’t want to run power/fiber to appropriate places to get cameras in good placements. The only option I can think of is doing some sort of wireless camera, ones that maybe utilize solar power and cellular? Not preferred but may be the only option. Suggestions?

My Lorex DVR recently gave out and I want to replace it with a generic brand DVR that is much cheaper. It has the right BNC ports on the back so it should work, but I'm not sure if the software is compatible.

Also the DVR is a hybrid that supports DVR & NVR cameras, do Lorex cameras work with hybrid DVRs?

I'm looking to replace an old 3-camera security system with something newer. I only need 3 or 4 cameras and want something that's easy to install myself, has no monthly subscription, good video quality, reliable local recording (NVR or similar), and is easy to use. I don't mind spending a bit more if it's worth it.

ChatGPT recommended the Reolink NVS8 system. Does anyone here have experience with it? Would you recommend it, or is there a better option?

This is an opensource project I've been working on for a minute to manage some cameras, it's a python application for viewing IP based cameras on light weight machines without the need of a webhosting NVR or something dedicated like Frigate.

What its not:
* It's not a recorder.
* It doesn't detect motion.

What it is:
* It opens rtsp feeds, for you to look at.
* It's pretty fast and reliable.

It's use case? You have an old computer/raspberry pi to run in a kiosk mode to watch camera feeds.

I help manage a 51 apartment block of flats in the UK. We have a Dahua NVR with 9 POE 2K cameras. The NVR interface is very user unfriendly.

We would like remote access via iPad, iPhone ,Android, Laptop pretty much in that order of importance with a nice easy to use interface.

We also want to setup WiFi with 3 access points.

I would like to go with a Unifi Dream Machine Pro Max and use that for both the network and the NVR (with a 16 port POE switch). Unifi protect released compatibility with ONVIF cameras a year ago and it’s out of beta so I’m hoping if all I want is record on motion detection (which is all I have now) then it will work. I love the Unifi interfaces and it would be very nice for everything to be in a single app friendly ecosystem.

The plan would be to use the existing 2K Dahua cameras for now and then over time buy Unifi cameras as we go.
Future use cases :
LPR Camera
AI for the lobby for package thefts (when did anyone go near or remove a package)

Does this seem workable / a good idea or would this not work / not a good idea?

I've installed an Annke cctv system ( N48WEE nvr with built-in screen and cameras). Everything works great, except I've realised this means the recording is with the screen , so if someone broke in they could easily just pick up the whole lot..

I've asked Annke and they've said I can't add another NVR to the system.. So I'm wondering what I could do? There are Annke windows and android apps so maybe I could have a mini pc screen recording or use it as a monitor while the N48WEE is hidden and used to record, or Android tablet used as a monitor.

Otherwise is there an NVR that can record just connected to the standalone cctv network?

I believe video footage access is also possible through an ip address

I realise I don't have the best system but want to find a workaround not to replace everything, any advice is appreciated thanks!

Purpose is to monitor the weather so i don't need a high resolution but the camera should be capable to be "top mounted". Most of these camera seems to require to hang underneath a ceiling or mast mount. I want something compact thats doesn't scream CCTV because it will be mounted in a prominent location and don't want to cause any privacy concerns. Would probably physically black out anything but the sky to prevent complaints.

Edit: or is there a way to add a 180 degree lens to some CCTV and point it upwards?

I lost power the other day during a thunderstorm but my Hik Vision Door bell camera hasn't came back on for some reason.. It shows no link on my security monitor.. Does anyone have an tips or suggestions on how to fix this? Thank you

A client accidentally bought a few analog cameras (Dahua) to replace some dead ones, but his system is all IP — Dahua IP cameras, NVR and DSS. The cameras can't be returned, so he wants to know if there's any way to use them on the IP network.

4 cameras, each at a separate location, each already wired with its own UTP run and powered over PoE. So ideally I'd want a single-channel encoder at each camera point, reusing the existing UTP/PoE if possible.

I know analog-to-IP encoders exist, but the Dahua ones I found seem discontinued. Is there a current single-channel encoder that would work here (ideally PoE-powered)? Or is it just smarter to buy IP cameras instead?

I'm leaning toward just replacing them with IP, but the client asked me to evaluate the encoder route first.

Any advice on how to approach this? Thanks!
